Towson 62, North Carolina A&T 9

Towson got contributions from all three units to build a 42-3 halftime lead and rolled to a 62-9 road win at North Carolina A&T. Freshman quarterback Andrew Indorf led a Tigers’ offense that piled up 527 yards, completing 18-of-24 passes for 294 yards and 2 TD’s.

A&T got off to a good start as Andrew Brown drilled a school-record 56-yard field goal on the opening drive of the game, but it was all Towson after that. Indorf threw a 9-yard scoring toss to Al Wooten II and Matthieu Longa blocked a punt that was returned two yards for a TD by Xzavion Crumb to make it 14-3 after one quarter. Early in the second quarter, the Tigers tacked on a 1-yard TD run Kahseim Phillips and a 27-yard burst by Wooten that was set up by a Ben Kumpon interception. The Tigers closed the half with a 38-yard TD pass from Winston Watkins to Cleveland Charlton and a 65-yarder from Indorf to Jaceon Doss. Towson reached the end zone twice in the second half on a 31-yard run by Kemarrion Battles and a 5-yard run by Trey Engram. Reserve quarterback Nelson Layne had a 60-yard TD run for A&T. Doss caught four passes for 109 yards for the Tigers.

Monmouth 35, Bryant 7

Rodney Nelson rushed for a career-high 244 yards and two touchdowns on 34 carries as Monmouth extended its winning streak to six with a 35-7 triumph over Bryant to move into a tie for first place in the CAA.

The Hawks took a quick 7-0 lead on a 69-yard scoring run by Nelson, but Bryant drew even on a 9-yard TD pass from Jaden Keefner to Koby Keenan early in the second quarter following an Olatunde Mkparu interception. Monmouth took control with a pair of touchdowns in the final five minutes of the second quarter as Nelson reached the end zone on a 3-yard and Tra Neal caught a 41-yard pass from Frankie Weaver to make it 21-7 at the break. The Hawks put together a pair of long scoring drives in the second half, with Weaver finding Gavin Nelson on an 8-yard TD in the third quarter and Elijah Jennings adding a 6-yard TD run with 1:05 to go. Weaver was 14-of-19 passing for 218 yards for MU, while Jaeden Jones made eight tackles for a Hawks’ defense that held Bryant to 226 yards. For the Bulldogs, Keefner threw for 167 yards and Brandon Perkins paced the defense with 13 tackles.

Maine 28, Stony Brook 21

Quarterback Carter Peevy accounted for 239 yards of offense and three touchdowns as Maine pushed its winning streak to five by beating Stony Brook, 28-21. The Black Bears’ defense recorded five sacks and held the Seawolves to three yards rushing.

Maine jumped out to a 14-0 advantage in the first quarter as Peevy connected with Molayo Irefin on an 11-yard TD pass and Sincere Baines broke loose on a 24-yard scoring run. SBU pulled within 14-7 at the half when Quinn Boyd found Dez Williams with a 15-yard strike with 13 seconds left in the second quarter. Maine extended its lead to 28-7 midway through the third quarter as Peevy ran in from a yard out on the Black Bears’ opening drive and then threw a 14-yard TD pass to Daniel Batch that came three plays after a Christian Thomas strip sack at the 15-yard line. Stony Brook battled back as an A.J. Roberts interception set up a 1-yard TD run by Roland Dempster late in the third quarter. The Seawolves closed to within 28-21 on another 1-yard run by Dempster with 40 seconds remaining, but Maine recovered the ensuing onsides kick. Baines rushed for 86 yards on 12 carries, while Latrell Couchman tallied seven tackles and two sacks for the Maine defense. SBU’s Boyd finished 33-of-59 passing for 299 yards, with Williams making nine catches for 129 yards. Anthony Ferrelli made 16 tackles and 2.0 TFL’s for the Seawolves’ defense.

William & Mary 37, UAlbany 7

Special teams came up big for William & Mary as the Tribe scored a touchdown on a fake field goal and blocked three punts for safeties in a 37-7 victory over UAlbany. W&M quarterback Tyler Hughes also had a big day, throwing for 245 yards and a TD and adding 52 yards on the ground.

Holder Joey Tomasso ran in from five yards out on a fake field goal to put W&M up 7-0 in the first quarter and they followed by recording a safety after a Josh Miller blocked punt. The Tribe upped its advantage to 12-0 after a Keegan Shackford field goal and a second safety on a Stephon Hicks punt block. W&M closed the first half with touchdown passes to Armon Wright (21 yards) and Jackson Blee (16 yards). A third blocked punt for a safety by Xavier Dillard and a 2-yard scoring run put the Tribe ahead 37-0 after three periods. UAlbany got on the board in the fourth quarter on a 2-yard Aidan Semo run. Blee finished with nine receptions for 78 yards, while Harrison Johnson had seven tackles and a sack for a W&M defense that held UAlbany to 232 yards. For UAlbany, Griffin Woodell ran for 43 yards on eight carries while Chris Gates made a career-high 17 tackles and 1.5 TFL’s.
