CAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
D.J. Smith, Campbell
Graduate Student | Guard | Little Rock, Ark.
Smith turned in a pair of 20-point games, including a career-high, across the first three games of the season. He started the year with 23 points on the road at No. 24/24 Wisconsin, keeping Campbell in striking distance for the first 33 minutes of the contest. The six-foot guard hauled in eight rebounds at West Virginia to go with 11 points against the Big 12 opponent. Smith dazzled in his first home game, scoring a career-high 29 against Western Michigan. The Little Rock, Ark., native connected on six 3-pointers and knocked down nine free throws as well. His 11 treys lead the CAA through week one, and his 21.0 points per game pace all league players with more than one game played.
 
CAA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Preston Edmead, Hofstra
Freshman | Guard | Deer Park, N.Y.
Edmead put forth a solid opening week to his collegiate career, averaging 17.0 points and 6.0 assists per game against UCF and Iona. In the season opener at UCF, the freshman guard posted 16 points, including a 6-of-6 showing at the charity stripe, and six assists across 30 minutes of action. Edmead's 16 points were the most by a freshman in his debut for Hofstra since Eli Pemberton had 20 in 2016-17. Edmead followed up with a team-best 18 points and six assists at Iona. Edmead shot 50% from the field and drained a pair of three-pointers in each game.
 
BACK TO THE GRIND
Campbell closed out opening week with a decisive 91-82 win, marking the first career coaching win for first-year Head Coach John Andrzejek. D.J. Smith unloaded a career-high 29 points with six made 3-pointers and nine makes from the charity stripe. Dovydas Butka also chipped in 19 points, nine boards and four steals in the win.
 
Hofstra opened week two with a 95-61 win over Molloy on Tuesday. Cruz Davis led five players in double figures with a 24-point, 10-rebound double-double. He also fell two assists shy of a triple-double, posting eight helpers. Victory Onuetu also notched a double-double with 10 points and 12 boards.
 
North Carolina A&T welcomes South Carolina State for a 7 p.m. showdown on FloCollege tonight in Greensboro. UNCW will also be in action tonight, heading to Kent State for a 7 p.m. contest on ESPN+.
 
LOAD UP
CAA teams will have their hands full this week as several teams will take on reigning conference champions, opponents that were picked to finish in the top two in their league’s preseason polls, or are among the power five conferences.
 
Hampton will link up with the University of Virginia on Tuesday for a 9 p.m. showdown from Charlottesville. The late-night contest will air on ACCNX. Northeastern will head to Harvard on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. contest. The Crimson were picked second in the Ivy League.
 
Monmouth will head to Newark, N.J., to build off its 2024 win over in-state rival Seton Hall. The two teams will face off inside Prudential Center at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
 
Saturday will be a jam-packed day filled with high-level competition. William & Mary will have the toughest test of this weekend when it heads to Queens, N.Y., to face reigning BIG EAST Champions, No. 13/13 St. John’s. The 6 p.m. contest from Carnesecca Arena will be broadcast nationally on truTV.
 
Along with the Tribe, Stony Brook will also face off with Ivy League favorite Yale on Saturday in a 1 p.m. tilt on ESPN+. Northeastern will also look to knock off America East favorite, Vermont, on Saturday in a 1 p.m. game on FloCollege. Drexel will look to take down ACC foe Syracuse on the road in a 3:30 contest on Peacock. Towson will also play host to MEAC Champion Norfolk State on Thursday, squaring off in a 7 p.m. showdown on FloCollege
 
 
CAMPBELL CAMELS (1-2; 0-0 CAA)
  • The Camels’ Head Coach John Andrzejek notched his first coaching victory on Sunday following the team’s 91-82 win over Western Michigan. D.J. Smith produced his second 20-point showing of the season with a career-high 29 points on Sunday.
  • Campbell put up a pair of valiant efforts on the road against No. 24/24 Wisconsin and West Virginia last week. The Camels hung around in both contests, maintaining distance for more than three-quarters of its contest against the Badgers and staying within two possessions for majority of the second half against the Mountaineers.
 
CHARLESTON COUGARS (1-2; 0-0 CAA)
  • Charleston cruised to a 79-58 victory over Tusculum. Six players finished in double figures, led by double-doubles from Chol Machot (14 pts., 11 rebs.) and Kendall Taylor (12 pts., 11 rebs.). The Cougars, without three key players, put forth valiant efforts against Liberty and FAU. Martin Kalu averaged 16.5 ppg and 5.0 rpg in those two contests.
  •  Head Coach Chris Mack welcomed in All-CAA First Team selection Colby Duggan and Big South Freshman of the Year Mister Dean for the 2025-26 campaign.
 
DREXEL DRAGONS (1-1; 0-0 CAA)
  • The Dragons blew past Widener, 93-59, with 49 points coming off the bench. Josh Reed paced the team with 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor. All 11 players that stepped on the court also scored at least two points. Drexel battled to a 76-65 setback to Saint Joseph’s.
  • Head Coach Zach Spiker enters his 10th season with Drexel, leading the Dragons to their fifth-straight winning season with an 18-15 record in 2024-25. It marks the first time the Dragons have had five consecutive winning slates since the 1990s.
     
ELON PHOENIX (2-0; 0-0 CAA)
  • The Phoenix edged out UNCG, 92-90, in overtime behind a pair of standout performances from Kacper Klaczek (25 pts., 13 rebs.) and Chandler Cuthrell (20 pts., 10 rebs.) Neither team led by more than eight points and were tied 11 times. Elon is averaging 18.0 offensive rebounds per game.
  • Elon cruised to a 99-51 victory over Belmont Abbey on Tuesday. Six players notched double figures in scoring, seeing Chandler Cuthrell unload 21 points with five rebounds. The Phoenix knocked down 13 triples in the contest.
     
HAMPTON PIRATES (1-1; 0-0 CAA)
  • Hampton produced a 60-point victory, 103-43, on Thursday against Mid-Atlantic Christian. Thirteen players notched points in the win, including a pair of 16-point showings from Quintin Cooper and Aiden Haskins in reserve.
  • Hampton nearly edged Milwaukee on the road by utilizing a 25-point effort from Jalyke Gaines-Wyatt to try and help erase a double-digit deficit in the final five minutes, before falling, 90-86. Xzavier Long nearly produced a triple-double with 16 points, 17 rebounds and eight assists.
 
HOFSTRA PRIDE (1-2; 0-0 CAA)
  • Hofstra picked up a 95-61 win over Molloy on Tuesday. Cruz Davis led five players in double figures with a 24-point, 10-board double-double. He also fell two assists shy of a triple-double, posting eight helpers.
  • The Pride battled to the very end against first-time opponent UCF. Davis and Preston Edmead put up 17 and 16 points apiece, respectively, nearly toppling the Knights before dropping the 82-78 affair. Hofstra did the same on Friday against Iona, seeing five players in double figures in an 81-73 setback.
 
MONMOUTH HAWKS (1-1; 0-0 CAA)
  • Monmouth utilized a 54-point opening half before seeing 13 players register points in its 96-68 win over Caldwell. Justin Ray and Stefanos Spartalis racked up 16 points apiece in the win. Monmouth put forth a resilient effort in Saturday’s 73-60 setback to La Salle, shooting 42.3% from the floor.
  • The Hawks are set to square off with in-state rival and BIG EAST foe Seton Hall on Thursday inside Prudential Center. Monmouth picked up its first win over the Pirates last season with a 63-51 victory. Jack Collins scored 13 points in the win.
 
N.C. A&T AGGIES (0-1; 0-0 CAA)
  • Lureon and Lewis Walker combined for 38 points in the Aggies’ 91-72 setback to SEC foe South Carolina. Lureon paced the team with 22 points on 9-of-16 shooting, while Lewis chipped in 16 of his own.
  • The Seahawks will face Kent State in a 7 p.m. showdown on ESPN+. UNCW will look to secure its first win in the series. The two teams will square off for the first time since 2008.
 
UNCW SEAHAWKS (1-0; 0-0 CAA)
  • UNCW saw five players reach double figures in its 106-77 triumph over Mount Olive. Nolan Hodge rattled off 21 points in the win, while Patrick Wessler put up a 17-point, 14-rebound double-double and Madison Durr notched nine of his 18 points from the charity stripe.
  • The Seahawks will face Kent State in a 7 p.m. showdown on ESPN+. UNCW will look to secure its first win in the series. The two teams will square off for the first time since 2008.
 
NORTHEASTERN HUSKIES (1-1; 0-0 CAA)
  • •Head Coach Bill Coen secured his 300th win with the Huskies on Nov. 7 after watching his squad fight back and down Colgate, 68-65. Trailing by as many as eight with under three minutes to play, NU closed the game on a 13-2 run, led by a career-high 21-point effort from Youri Fritz.
  • Northeastern took Boston University to overtime on Monday behind a league-high 26-point showing from LA Pratt. The Preseason All-CAA First Team selection went 9-of-14 inside the arc to go with four assists and three steals in the 76-75 setback.
 
STONY BROOK SEAWOLVES (2-0; 0-0 CAA)
  • The Seawolves secured a 71-60 wire-to-wire victory over the America East’s preseason No. 2 Maine on Saturday. Erik Pratt shined in his season debut with 19 points, while Rob Brown III chipped in 16 points of his own and Richard Goods notched a 10-point, 10-board double-double.
  • Stony Brook turned to Andrej Shoshkikj on opening night with a 20-point performance in the Seawolves’ 66-59 win over Farmingdale State. Richard Goods also reached double figures with 10 points.
 
TOWSON TIGERS (1-1; 0-0 CAA)
  • Tyler Tejada put up a game-best 24 points to help Towson secure a 67-56 victory over Loyola [Md.] on Monday. Dylan Williamson and Jack Doumbia produced double-digit scoring efforts with 14 and 13 points apiece, respectively. The trio combined for 40 points in the team’s 65-48 setback to No. 2/2 Houston.
  • Reigning CAA Player of the Year Tejada returns to Towson, one of five conference Player of the Year honorees from last season to return to his same school and defend his recognition in 2025-26.
 
WILLIAM & MARY TRIBE (2-0; 0-0 CAA)
  • The Tribe rallied from a 12-point second-half deficit on the road to knock off the defending MEAC Champion Norfolk State, 81-78, on Saturday. A balanced scoring effort saw all 10 players score points in the win, including a 15-point showing from Jhei-R Jones. Kyle Pulliam scored seven of his 14 points with under five minutes to play, including an eventual game-winning free throw.
  • The Tribe put up the largest scoring output across the league on opening night with six players in double figures, pushing the team to a 110-63 victory over Georgian Court. Ryan Jackson Jr. led the charge with 15 points off the bench.
