Chandler Cuthrell picked up CAA Player of the Week honors, while Hofstra freshman guard
Preston Edmead secured his second-straight Rookie of the Week recognition on Monday.
CAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Chandler Cuthrell, Elon
Graduate Student | Forward | Baltimore, Md.
Cuthrell averaged 28.5 points per game on 51.2% shooting (21-of-41) and 6.5 rebounds per game during Elon's 1-1 week. The Baltimore, Md., native poured in a career-high 28 points in a narrow 96-89 road loss at Marshall last week, leading all Phoenix scorers in the contest. The graduate forward broke his personal benchmark once again with a career-high 29 points on 10-of-18 shooting to go with eight boards in a 95-84 victory over Gardner-Webb on Saturday. The Phoenix forward also ranks sixth nationally in scoring at 24.5 points per game.
CAA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Preston Edmead, Hofstra
Freshman | Guard | Deer Park, N.Y.
Edmead helped the Pride to a 2-0 week as the freshman guard averaged 17.5 points, 5.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game in the wins over Molloy and Bucknell. Against Molloy, he had 12 points, six assists, and two steals in limited minutes (28). Edmead would follow that up with his first career 20-point game, notching 23 points, five assists and two steals in an 83-77 road win over the Bison. Edmead’s 18 second-half points led the Pride's comeback from down double digits. The Deer Park, N.Y., native became the first Hofstra true freshman to score 20 or more points in a game since Eli Pemberton on January 19, 2017, and he is one of only five freshmen nationally to be averaging at least 17 points and five assists per game. For the week, he hit six three-pointers as well and shot 11-for-14 from the free throw line, while starting both games and averaging 33 minutes per game.
