Despite going down to 10 players in the last 15 minutes, No.2 Stony Brook was resilient on defense and held onto Hannah Maracina’s first-half goal to defeat No. 1 Monmouth, 1-0,and advance to the 2025 CAA Women’s Soccer Championship game.

The Seawolves (12-6-1) will look to retain their crown and win their second CAA title in program history. Monmouth finished the 2025 campaign with a 10-6-2 record.
Jona Hennings headlined a superb defensive display from Stony Brook, making six saves, including a few stops late in the contest. The junior goalie's save tally is a new career-high in a Seawolves jersey.

Out of nowhere, Stony Brook struck first when a loose ball fell in the box to Maracina. Off the in-swinging corner kick, Reilly Rich headed it across the goal mouth to Maracina, who drifted away from her defender and volleyed it into the top corner.

Stony Brook kept its foot on the gas in the second half, with Jamie Keens ripping a long-range effort on frame. Hawks’ keeper Alex Scott utilized great footwork to move across her line and push the ball away for the corner, but the Seawolves didn’t let up. After an attempt off the set piece, Stony Brook continued its relentlessness, not allowing Monmouth out of their own half for the next few minutes.

Trying to gain momentum with the clock winding down, Monmouth forced Hennings into an awkward save, sending  Loren Gehret’s half volley around the post
Despite being a player down through the final 15 minutes after Eva Sprewell’s second yellow card, Stony Brook bunkered in and only gave up three shots during the final stretch to ultimately seal the victory.

A career performance from Katie Bisgrove between the posts sent third-seeded Elon past No. 1 UNCW, 6-5 in penalties, after the two teams battled to a scoreless draw in the semifinals of the CAA Women’s Soccer Championship.

Elon (11-2-6) will make its first CAA Championship game appearance since the 2020-21 season, when the Phoenix won the title. The Seahawks saw their season come to an end with an 11-3-4 record.

Bisgrove totaled 12 saves in the contest to eclipse her previous personal-best of nine and added to her historic shutout tally with nine on the season.
Four minutes in, a few quick passes found Hailey Longwell through on goal for UNCW. Preparing to rip a shot on target, the CAA Attacking Player of the Year was taken down and earned her squad a trip to the penalty spot, but she missed the attempt.

Shots continued to fall on target for the Seahawks, outshooting the Phoenix 11-6, including 7-2 on frame. However, the constant pressure on her goal didn’t faze Bisgrove, who parried an impressive seven shots away through the first 45.

With less than four minutes to go in the first half, Elon’s Gabby Hoschek found herself with a dangerous free kick opportunity a few yards outside the box. After firing one right into the wall, the junior midfielder kept her eyes on the ball and placed on frame, but UNCW keeper Morgan Hobbs was equal to the close-range shot to keep the score level through the first half.

The Phoenix kept at it in the second half, shifting UNCW’s backline by switching the field twice to free up Hoschek in the box. The junior midfielder struck the bobbling ball well, but sent it right off the crossbar.

Overtime saw more of the same with Bisgrove continuing to show out. Twisting and turning in the box, Longwell emerged in a pocket of space, flicking the ball on target, but Bisgrove palmed the ball to safety, denying the best opportunity of the 20 minutes.

Level through 110 minutes, the game headed to penalty kicks with both shot stoppers coming inches away from denying a shot from the spot. Elon and UNCW were perfect through five before Isabel DiPrima stepped up and laced one into the bottom right corner to put the Phoenix up 6-5. The ensuing attempt by Longwell caromed off the crossbar, allowing the Phoenix to advance.
