Xavier Abreu and Monmouth forward
Stefanos Spartalis picked up CAA Player and Rookie of the Week honors on Monday.
CAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Xavier Abreu, Northeastern
Freshman | Guard | Lynn, Mass.
Abreu helped the Huskies to a 1-1 week after averaging 24.5 points per game off the bench. The Northeastern freshman shot 56.3% from the floor to go with 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals per contest. Abreu registered his first career double-digit scoring effort with 17 points on 7-of-15 shooting, while logging three steals at Princeton. His standout performance came on Saturday in the Huskies’ 93-86 win over Duquesne, notching the highest scoring output by a CAA player this season with 32 points on 11-of-17 shooting. Abreu also added five rebounds, three steals, two assists and a block in the final minute of the game to lead the Huskies to victory. The Lynn, Mass., native is the 12th freshman in team history, and the first since 2020, to score at least 32 points in a game.
CAA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Stefanos Spartalis, Monmouth
Freshman | Forward | Chios, Greece
Spartalis averaged 18.0 points per game on 40.7 percent from the floor and a perfect 14-of-14 from the line. The freshman forward also pulled down 4.5 rebounds per game. Spartalis nearly helped Monmouth knock off Syracuse on the road with an 18-point, five-board showing, going 6-for-14 from the floor. The Chios, Greece native helped guide the Hawks to a comeback 71-70 win over Robert Morris, scoring 18 points, including go-ahead FTs in overtime.
