CAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Xavier Abreu, Northeastern
Freshman | Guard | Lynn, Mass.
Abreu helped the Huskies to a 1-1 week after averaging 24.5 points per game off the bench. The Northeastern freshman shot 56.3% from the floor to go with 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals per contest. Abreu registered his first career double-digit scoring effort with 17 points on 7-of-15 shooting, while logging three steals at Princeton. His standout performance came on Saturday in the Huskies’ 93-86 win over Duquesne, notching the highest scoring output by a CAA player this season with 32 points on 11-of-17 shooting. Abreu also added five rebounds, three steals, two assists and a block in the final minute of the game to lead the Huskies to victory. The Lynn, Mass., native is the 12th freshman in team history, and the first since 2020, to score at least 32 points in a game.
 
CAA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Stefanos Spartalis, Monmouth
Freshman | Forward | Chios, Greece
Spartalis averaged 18.0 points per game on 40.7 percent from the floor and a perfect 14-of-14 from the line. The freshman forward also pulled down 4.5 rebounds per game. Spartalis nearly helped Monmouth knock off Syracuse on the road with an 18-point, five-board showing, going 6-for-14 from the floor. The Chios, Greece native helped guide the Hawks to a comeback 71-70 win over Robert Morris, scoring 18 points, including go-ahead FTs in overtime.
 
SUMMING UP
The Dragons utilized an 18-point effort from Josh Reed in reserve to secure a 75-71 win against Old Dominion. Kevon Vanderhorst notched a career-high 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including a steal-and-slam with 46 seconds left in regulation to put the game out of reach. Shane Blakeney rounded out those in double figures with 15 points, knocking down a team-best three 3-pointers to go with four boards and three steals. Drexel shot 44.6% from the floor.
 
The Hawks were resilient against Robert Morris, battling 11 ties in the game and erasing a five-point deficit with under 30 seconds left in overtime to secure a 71-70 win. Freshman Stefanos Spartalis sealed the win with a pair of made free throws with 8.6 seconds remaining, part of an 8-for-8 showing at the line en route to a season-best 18 points. Justin Ray also produced an 18-point showing for Monmouth, draining three of his five makes from distance. Jason Rivera-Torres notched 16 points and 11 boards, including six on the offensive glass.
 
Towson started week four with a 62-55 win and handed Rhode Island its second loss of the season. Dylan Williamson unloaded 25 points in the victory, draining five of his 10 makes from distance. Tyler Tejada and Jack Doumbia Jr. each finished in double figures with 16 and 15 points, respectively. The win also marked a top 100 KenPom win for the Tigers.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
CAA Teams picked up seven wins over the weekend and added its first of week four with Towson earning a 62-55 victory over Rhode Island.
 
William & Mary will link up with UTEP in the Jacksonville Invitational in a 4 p.m. showdown today on BallerTV. Charleston will look to secure a third-place finish at Paradise Jam when it takes on Evansville in a 5:30 p.m. tilt on ESPN+. Elon closes out Monday’s slate with a 6:30 p.m. contest at Appalachian State on ESPN+.
 
Two CAA teams - Campbell and Northeastern - will look to take down ACC foe Wake Forest on the road this week. The Camels will square off with the Demon Deacons at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Huskies will head to Winston-Salem, N.C., for a noon tilt on Friday. Both contests will be streamed on ACCNX.
 
Stony Brook will look to take down Loyola Marymount in a 10 p.m. matchup on ESPN+ on Friday. LMU is also ranked inside CollegeInsider.com’s Mid-Major Top 25.
 
Charleston will also face off with a mid-major Top 25 team when it welcomes Belmont for a 3:30 p.m. slate on Sunday.
 
Hampton closed out the night with an eventful 72-63 win over Brown. Michael Eley paced the Pirates with 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor and a 5-for-5 showing at the charity stripe. Daniel Johnson also produced 17 points and a game-high four steals.
 
SCORING IN BULK
The CAA has four of the nation’s top 35 scorers through three weeks of action. N.C. A&T’s Lureon Walker paces the way with 23.0 ppg (12th in NCAA), while Elon’s Chandler Cuthrell is right behind with 22.6 ppg (13th). Campbell’s DJ Smith rounded out the top 20 nationally with 22.0 ppg and Stony Brook’s Erik Pratt has posted 21.0 ppg (31st), prior to today’s contest.
 
CAMPBELL CAMELS (3-3; 0-0 CAA)
  • Trailing by as many as nine with eight minutes left in regulation, Campbell stunned UT Arlington, 71-67, after Jeremiah Johnson rattled off eight straight points with under 2:30 to play to lift the Camels to victory. DJ Smith racked up a team-best 20 points, while Dovydas Butka added 17 points and nine boards.
  • Campbell’s Smith is third in the conference and 21st in the nation averaging 22.0 points per game. Butka is also second in the league and 31st in the country with 56 total rebounds.
 
CHARLESTON COUGARS (3-4; 0-0 CAA)
  • Charleston advanced to the winner’s bracket at Paradise Jam after edging UMass, 69-65. Six different players scored eight points or more in the win, seeing Jlynn Counter reach double figures with 12 points of his own. The Cougars will look to claim a third-place finish after falling to Yale, 74-63, despite double-digit scoring efforts from Chol Machot (15 pts.) and Connor Hickman (14 pts.)
  • The Cougars have protected the ball well through the first seven games, surrendering 8.9 turnovers per contest, good for 17th in NCAA Division I.
 
DREXEL DRAGONS (3-4; 0-0 CAA)
  • The Dragons utilized an 18-point effort from Josh Reed in reserve to secure a 75-71 win against Old Dominion. Kevon Vanderhorst notched a career-high 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including a steal-and-slam with 46 seconds left in regulation to put the game out of reach.
  • Drexel is one of two CAA schools (UNCW) that ranked top 25 in the nation in offensive rebounds, averaging 15.3 per game. Garfield Turner and Villiam Garcia Adsten are top 10 in the league, posting 3.0 and 2.3 offensive boards per contest, respectively.
     
ELON PHOENIX (3-2; 0-0 CAA)
  • Randall Pettus II led four Phoenix in double figures, scoring 17 points, with four of his six makes coming from distance, in Elon’s 99-72 setback to Miami [FL]. Chandler Cuthrell and Bryson Cokely made the most of their chances, combining for 29 points and 11-of-15 shooting from the floor.
  • Elon will face former Southern Conference rival Appalachian State when the two face off tonight. The Phoenix has won three straight against the Mountaineers.
     
HAMPTON PIRATES (2-5; 0-0 CAA)
  • Hampton took reigning MEAC Champion Norfolk State to the wire as Etienne Strothers tied the game with 32 seconds to go before dropping the Battle of the Bay matchup, 62-60. Daniel Johnson and Michael Eley notched 15 and 14 points apiece, respectively.
  • Long has been lethal on the glass through seven contests, averaging 11.0 rebounds (14th in NCAA) to go along with 10.8 points per game. He is the only player in the CAA averaging double figures in points and rebounds.
 
HOFSTRA PRIDE (2-3; 0-0 CAA)
  • Cruz Davis produced 20 of his game-high 25 points in the second half to take Temple to brink before falling 81-75. The Preseason All-CAA selection shot 50% from the floor (9-18) and from distance (5-10), while adding four assists. Biggie Patterson and Joshua DeCady also reached double figures with 15 and 13 points, respectively.
  • Freshman Preston Edmead helped Hofstra to an 83-77 win at Bucknell after rattling off 23 points and five assists. Davis put up 18 points and Patterson rattled off 17 points of his own.
 
MONMOUTH HAWKS (2-3; 0-0 CAA)

N.C. A&T AGGIES (3-1; 0-0 CAA)
  • Lewis Walker unloaded 24 points on 7-for-13 shooting from the floor and a 9-of-11 showing from the charity stripe to go with nine rebounds to help lift North Carolina A&T to its third-straight win with a 79-73 victory over Morgan State. Will Felton had the hot hand off the bench with 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field, adding eight boards to his final line.
  • The Walkers have also been knocking down more than half of their respective shots, both sitting top three in the conference. Lureon has knocked down 54.5% of his shots, while Lewis has hit 53.5%.
 
UNCW SEAHAWKS (4-1; 0-0 CAA)
  • UNCW’s Nolan Hodge put forth an 18-point, seven-rebound performance to help the Seahawks down Radford, 81-73, securing their third straight win. Gavin Walsh and Madison Durr were vital off the bench, scoring 15 and 11 points, respectively. UNCW registered 18 assists on 30 made attempts, with Greedy Williams producing six helpers in the contest.
  • Christian May notched a 22-point effort after shooting 8-for-12 from the floor with six boards in UNCW’s 85-60 triumph on Tuesday. UNCW is outrebounding its opponents by a margin of +11.4.
 
NORTHEASTERN HUSKIES (3-3; 0-0 CAA)
  • Xavier Abreu notched a 32-point effort off the bench on 11-of-17 shooting from the floor in Northeastern’s 93-86 victory over Duquesne on Saturday afternoon. Haris Elezovic also put forth a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double after going 8-for-12 from the floor.
  • •The Huskies battled Princeton on the road with 17 points and three steals from Abreu off the bench to go with a 16-point, eight-rebound and four-block performance from Youri Fritz in the 70-57 setback on Thursday.
 
STONY BROOK SEAWOLVES (4-2; 0-0 CAA)
  • Stony Brook jumped out to a 4-1 start on the season after earning an 80-70 victory over Brown on Thursday. Erik Pratt unloaded a 27-point effort with a 10-for-20 showing from the field. Along with three 3-pointers, the team’s leading scorer also notched four assists and a trio of steals. The Seawolves fell to Pacific, 86-58, on Monday.
  • Pratt has emerged as a steady force for the Seawolves, pacing the team and sitting sixth in the conference with 18.0 ppg, following Monday’s contest.
 
TOWSON TIGERS (4-2; 0-0 CAA)
  • Towson started week four with a 62-55 win and handed Rhode Island its second loss of the season. Dylan Williamson unloaded 25 points in the victory, draining five of his 10 makes from distance. Tyler Tejada and Jack Doumbia Jr. each finished in double figures with 16 and 15 points, respectively. The win also marked a top 100 win, according to KenPom.com.
  • Towson grinded out a 51-41 victory over reigning MEAC Champion Norfolk State. Dylan Williamson led all scorers with 12 points, while Jack Doumbia Jr. notched a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double.
 
WILLIAM & MARY TRIBE (4-2; 0-0 CAA)
  • William & Mary secured an 82-74 victory at Bowling Green on Wednesday, led by a 16-point, five-rebound, five-assist showing from Tunde Vahlberg Fasasi. Chase Lowe went 5-for-5 from the floor en route to a 14-point effort. The Tribe went on a 17-1 run midway through the first half and never looked back, maintaining a two-possession lead or better for the rest of the game.
  • The Tribe has utilized its entire bench through six contests this season, averaging 41.5 points per game (13th in NCAA) from their reserves. W&M is also pacing the CAA with 19.8 assists per contest (24th in NCAA).
