Rob Washburn
RICHMOND, Va. (December 11, 2025) – Hofstra freshman
Freddie Kipkosgei was selected as the 2025 CAA Men’s Cross Country Runner and Rookie of the Year in a vote of the league’s head coaches. He is the first athlete to earn both awards in the same season since 2015 when Elon’s Nick Ciolkowski achieved the feat.
Joining Kipkosgei as a major award winner was Hofstra’s
Vincent Giambanco, who received CAA Men’s Cross Country Coach of the Year honors for the first time.
Kipkosgei turned in one of the most outstanding seasons in conference history. He became the first Hofstra runner since 2020 to capture the individual title at the CAA Cross Country Championship, posting a winning time of 23:01.6 that was the second-fastest in conference history. The freshman followed by claiming the individual championship at the NCAA Northeast Regional, covering the 10K course in 29:12.7. That effort earned him Northeast Region Athlete of the Year honors. Kipkosgei completed his season by achieving All-America status with a 38
th place finish at the NCAA Championship, setting a personal best with a time of 29:04.09. He’s Hofstra’s first CAA Runner of the Year since 2020.
Giambanco was honored as the CAA Coach of the Year after guiding Hofstra to its first conference title in men’s cross country. The Pride had four runners finish in the top 11 individually at the championship, led by Kipkosgei and second-place Abraham Longosiwa. Hofstra’s best previous performance was a tie for third in 2018.
The top 15 finishers from the CAA Championship were recognized as all-conference performers. Those honorees are listed in alphabetical order.
