Drexel Introduces Grogan as New Head Women’s Soccer Coach
PHILADELPHIA – Shannon Grogan has been named the Head Coach of the Drexel women's soccer program, Drexel University Vice President, Director of Athletics & Recreation Maisha Kelly announced on Wednesday. Grogan most recently completed her second season as Associate Head Coach of the Stony Brook women's soccer program and has served on the staff since 2018. In addition to her coaching responsibilities, Grogan was elevated to recruiting coordinator in 2022. In her seven seasons as a coach for Stony Brook, the Seawolves won three conference championships, appeared in three NCAA tournaments, and have made the playoffs six times.
"Shannon brings an impressive blend of leadership, competitive vision, and student-athlete-centered values to Drexel," Kelly said. "Her familiarity with the University, as well as coaching experience in the CAA, gives her a strong understanding of our competitive landscape. Her track record of developing high-performing teams and cultivating positive cultures makes her an outstanding fit for our women's soccer program. I am thrilled to welcome her to Drexel, and I am confident she will elevate our program while supporting our student-athletes both academically and athletically."
Grogan helped the team capture the CAA regular season title, along with the CAA Championship in 2024, posting the team's highest RPI in program history. The team finished with a 14-4-3 record. During this past season, Stony Brook punched its ticket to the CAA Championship game for the second straight season. In her time with the Seawolves, Grogan helped mentor five CAA First Team Selections, a USC Scholar All-American, a SUNY Scholar All-American, a USC All-Region player, an All-ECAC player and the two-time CAA Midfielder of the Year. Grogan also helped lead the program to four straight CAA tournament appearances.

Prior to Stony Brook joining the CAA in 2022, Grogan helped produce two USC Scholar-All Americans, the program's second all-time leading scorer, A MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List honoree, the America East Striker of the Year and the America East Woman of the Year in 2021. Grogan and the rest of the Stony Brook staff were also awarded the 2019 America East Coaching Staff of the Year award. Stony Brook won the America East Championship two straight seasons between the 2019 season and the 2020-21 COVID Spring Season.
In 2018, Grogan joined the program as an assistant women's soccer coach. In her first season, she helped the team earn the America East Regular Season Championship and America East Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
In addition to Grogan's coaching experience, Grogan was a four-year member of Stony Brook's team. She was a captain for two years and helped the program capture its first America East Championship as well as its first NCAA Tournament appearance. After her collegiate career, Grogan played professionally in the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL), competing for Jersey Blues FC in both 2013 and 2014.GTwo years later, in 2016, Grogan was a part of the Tampa Bay Hellenic.
Grogan has been heavily involved in the club circuit, earning her start in 2016 with the FC Tampa Rangers. Grogan coached the Lady Rangers' U13 team and the Lady Rangers Newcastle U17 team. Grogan returned to New York and was named the head girls soccer coach of the NY Surf Soccer Club, coaching the NY Surf 07 Blue Academy and 06 Academy. In 2019, she led the soccer club to capture the NYCSL NPL Championship.
Grogan then moved to the East Meadow Soccer Club for a three-year stint, serving as the ECNL RL U16, U17 and U18 head coach. In her tenure, the team qualified for the ECNL RL Conference Playoffs in 2021 and 2022. Her most recent stop at the club level came in 2022 when she was the Head Girls Soccer Coach at Farmingdale Soccer Club, coaching the LUSL U18 team.
Grogan earned her bachelor's degree in coastal environmental studies from Stony Brook in 2015 and continued her education in 2018 at the University of South Florida, earning her master's degree in biology with a focus on ecology and evolution.
