CAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Cruz Davis, Hofstra
Senior | Guard | Plano, Texas
Davis put forth an incredible week for Hofstra, notably guiding the Pride to an 80-73 road win over ACC foe Pitt. The Plano, Texas native averaged 30.0 points on 56.1% shooting from the floor with 4.0 made 3-pointers per game. He also chipped in 4.5 assists per outing. Davis started his week with a valiant effort on Wednesday at Columbia, doing all he could to help Hofstra rally with 16 of his 24 points after intermission. The senior guard did it all on Sunday as he poured in a career-high 36 points as Hofstra took down Pitt for its first win over an ACC opponent since 2015. Davis, who added seven assists and two rebounds, shot 14-of-25 from the field overall and 5-for-11 from distance. His 36 points are the most by a player in the CAA this season.
 
CAA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Lewis Walker, North Carolina A&T
Freshman | Guard | Winston-Salem, N.C.
Walker played a major role in A&T defeating archrival N.C. Central on Saturday with his first career collegiate double-double. The Winston-Salem, N.C., native finished with 18 points on 5-for-9 shooting from the field and 8-for-10 shooting from the charity stripe, adding a season-high 14 rebounds. The freshman guard had 14 points earlier in the week in a setback at Charlotte. For the week, Walker averaged 16.0 points and 8.0 rebounds while shooting 9-for-20 (45.0% FG) from the floor and 13-for-16 (81.3% FG) from the free-throw line.
 
SUNDAY FROM DEEP
Cruz Davis contributed 63.8% of the team’s scoring on Sunday after unleashing a career-high 36 points to go with seven assists to help Hofstra down Pitt, 80-73, on the road. Victory Onuetu scored 10 points after going 5-for-5 from the floor and scoring on four of Davis’ seven helpers. With the win, a CAA program has picked up a victory over the ACC for the second straight season. The Pride are 5-1 in Pennsylvania this season.
 
Northeastern routed Central Connecticut State, 73-56, after watching William Kermoury knock down a career-high six treys en route to an 18-point, six-rebound showing on Sunday. Ty Francis chipped in 10 points and 12 rebounds off the bench for his first career double-double. Xavier Abreu added 15 points, six boards and a pair of assists in 20 minutes of action.
 
Campbell claimed the CAA’s single-game scoring record with its 149-62 routing of Virginia Lynchburg on Sunday. The Camels’ 149 points broke a nearly 31-year-old record (148) set by George Mason in 1994. The team’s 63 made field goals and 41 assists are also CAA records. In 25 minutes of action off the bench, Chris Fields Jr., registered 23 points, 22 rebounds and 11 assists for the program’s first triple-double. Muneer Newton (28 pts.) and Dovydas Butka (23 pts.) joined Fields in 20-point territory.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
Stony Brook will look to spoil Ivy League frontrunner Columbia’s hot start when the Seawolves host the 9-1 Lions on Tuesday. Tip-off from Long Island is slated for 7 p.m. on FloCollege. Aside from Columbia’s lone loss to UConn, Hofstra was the closest to knocking off the Lions with a 72-70 road setback last week.
 
Charleston will head to South Florida on Wednesday, taking on the Bulls in a 7 p.m. showdown on ESPN+. The Cougars hold the lone win in the series after routing the Bulls, 86-71, at home last season.
 
North Carolina A&T and Hampton will both take on Howard this week. The Pirates will head down to Cameron Indoor Stadium, home of the Duke Blue Devils, for a 7 p.m. showdown against the Bison. The Aggies will venture up to Washington, D.C., for its 3 p.m. tilt on Saturday.
 
Hofstra will look to take down its second ACC foe in as many weekends when it heads north to Syracuse for a 4 p.m. contest on ACC Network. The two teams will meet for the first time since 2006.
 
WINNING WAYS
UNCW is one of 11 teams riding an eight-game winning streak or better into the week, following its eight-point win over Louisiana on Saturday.
 
Hampton also joins the Seahawks on an active winning streak heading into next week, being winners of its last three contests.
 
SCORERS GONNA SCORE
Of the eight conferences represented among the nation’s top 16 scorers, six leagues have multiple players averaging at least 21.0 ppg, including the CAA. Elon’s Chandler Cuthrell is third in the country with 22.9 ppg, while Hofstra’s Cruz Davis sits 11th with 21.2 ppg.
 
RISING IN NET/KENPOM
Following the weekend slate, the CAA cracked the top 12 in KenPom Rankings. This comes after Hofstra’s 80-73 win over ACC foe Pittsburgh, earning a 13-point swing to No. 118 entering the week. After sitting outside of the top 15 all season, this rise comes after 35 NCAA Division I wins since Nov. 21.
 
As of Monday, three teams are still hanging around the NCAA NET Ranking Top 100 with William & Mary leading the way at No. 65. Hofstra jumped 19 spots to No. 95 after knocking off the Panthers, while UNCW settled at No. 101 to start the week.
 
CAMPBELL CAMELS (4-5; 0-0 CAA)
  • Campbell claimed the CAA’s single-game scoring record with its 149-62 routing of Virginia Lynchburg on Sunday. The Camels’ 149 points broke a nearly 31-year-old record (148) set by George Mason in 1994.  Chris Fields Jr., registered 23 points, 22 rebounds and 11 assists for the program’s first triple-double.
  • Campbell’s DJ Smith is third in the conference, averaging 19.4 points per game. Fields and Butka are second and third in the league with 9.1 and 8.8 rebounds per contest, respectively.
 
CHARLESTON COUGARS (4-5; 0-0 CAA)
  • Charleston picked up a third-place finish at Paradise Jam following its 78-59 victory over Evansville last week. Freshman Martin Kalu unleashed 21 points on 5-of-10 shooting from distance to go with seven boards. Connor Hickman produced a 16-point, eight-rebound showing. Chol Machot produced 15 points, seven boards, two steals and a pair of blocks.
  • The Cougars will look to get back on track this week when they head down to USF for a 7 p.m. showdown on Dec. 10. Charleston earned an 86-71 win over the Bulls in 2024.
 
DREXEL DRAGONS (4-6; 0-0 CAA)
  • A 42-point second-half surge nearly helped Drexel complete its comeback at the Toyota Big 5 Classic before falling 69-64. Garfield Turner notched 12 points and eight boards in reserve, while Josh Reed matched his teammate on the glass to go with 11 points.
  • The Dragons will return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 16, when they welcome Howard to Philadelphia. Drexel is 3-0 all-time against the Bison.
     
ELON PHOENIX (5-4; 0-0 CAA)
  • Chandler Cuthrell notched his eighth 20-point performance of the season with a 21-point, eight-rebound showing in Elon’s 73-52 routing of Wofford. The graduate forward went 8-for-11 from the floor with a pair of triples. Randall Pettus II and Bryson Cokley also knocked down two 3-pointers en route to 12-point showings.
  • Cuthrell (22.9 ppg, 54.4% FG) joins Duke’s Cam Boozer as the only two players in NCAA Division I to average 22-plus ppg and shoot 54.0% or better from the floor.
     
HAMPTON PIRATES (5-5; 0-0 CAA)
  • Hampton secured its third consecutive win with a 93-71 victory over Loyola (Md.) behind a 23-point effort from Jalyke Wyatt-Gaines, seeing 11 of his points coming from the free-throw line. The Pirates fired on all cylinders, going 29-for-50 from the floor (58.0% FG) and 10-for-17 from deep (58.8% 3FG) with 25 made free throws.
  • Michael Eley has paced the Pirates on their three-game winning streak with 16.0 ppg on 64.7% shooting from the floor. Elijah Kennedy and Wyatt-Gaines have each posted 13.0 ppg over that span..
 
HOFSTRA PRIDE (6-4; 0-0 CAA)
  • After taking Columbia to the brink early last week, Cruz Davis contributed 63.8% of the team’s scoring on Sunday after unleashing a career-high 36 points to go with seven assists to help Hofstra down Pitt, 80-73, on the road.
  • The Pride are 5-1 in Pennsylvania this season. Davis has averaged 22.3 ppg on 49.0% from the floor. The Preseason All-CAA pick has also knocked down 18 triples and averaged 5.7 apg. Preston Edmead has posted 13.5 ppg and 5.5 apg across 34.9 minutes per game.
 
MONMOUTH HAWKS (5-5; 0-0 CAA)
  • Monmouth put forth a valiant effort against Georgia Tech, watching the lead change 22 times with eight ties in the Hawks’ 79-67 setback to ACC foe Georgia Tech. Stefanos Spartalis notched 14 points, while Justin Ray chipped in 13 of his own.
  • Rivera-Torres paces three players in double figures with 14.6 ppg on 39.0% shooting. Stefanos Spartalis has been lethal underneath the basket with 13.0 ppg on 45.8% shooting inside the arc.
 
N.C. A&T AGGIES (4-3; 0-0 CAA)
  • An 18-point, 14-rebound double-double from Lewis Walker propelled North Carolina A&T past N.C. Central, 69-54. Trent Middleton Jr. drained three of the team’s four triples, finishing with 14 points, six boards and four helpers in 36 minutes of work.
  • Lewis Walker has hit 53.4% of his shots this season, good for third in the conference. His 19.3 points per game are also top five in the league and top 50 in the nation.
 
UNCW SEAHAWKS (9-1; 0-0 CAA)
  • UNCW picked up its eighth straight win on Saturday after downing Louisiana 70-63 on the road. Christian May went off for 18 points and seven boards, while draining five of his six makes from distance.
  • The Seahawks are shooting at an incredible 47.0% clip over their eight-game winning streak. Six players are averaging nine points or more. UNCW is outscoring the opposition by 15.4 ppg.
 
NORTHEASTERN HUSKIES (4-5; 0-0 CAA)
  • Northeastern routed Central Connecticut State, 73-56, after watching William Kermoury knock down a career-high six treys en route to an 18-point, six-rebound showing on Sunday. Ty Francis chipped in 10 points and 12 rebounds off the bench for his first career double-double. Xavier Abreu added 15 points, six boards and a pair of assists in 20 minutes of action.
  • The Huskies’ Xander Alarie is second in the CAA with an 88.9% shooting clip from the charity stripe.
 
STONY BROOK SEAWOLVES (6-3; 0-0 CAA)
  • Stony Brook battled Duquesne behind 19-point efforts from Erik Pratt and Richard Goods before falling, 84-75, on the road Saturday. Pratt added six boards and six assists, while Goods pulled down 10 boards, with five coming on the offensive glass.
  • The Seawolves have won two of their last three games. Pratt has been instrumental over that span with 20.3 ppg and 7.0 rpg.
 
TOWSON TIGERS (6-4; 0-0 CAA)
  • Towson has won three of its last five contests after cruising to a 93-80 victory over Cornell and shooting 56.1% from the field. Tyler Tejada unloaded 26 points with a career-high six treys, adding eight boards and three assists. Dylan Williamson chipped in 15 points and eight helpers in the win. The Tigers fell to UCF on Sunday, 86-61.
  • Over the last five games, Tejada has knocked down 49.3% of his shots (37-75 FG) from the floor and all 18 attempts from the free-throw line en route to 20.4 ppg and 5.0 rpg. Williamson (17.6 ppg) and Doumbia (12.2 ppg) have averaged in double figures as well.
 
WILLIAM & MARY TRIBE (8-3; 0-0 CAA)
  • The Tribe has won seven of its last eight contests. William & Mary paces the CAA and ranks 10th in the nation with 20.0 assists per game. Chase Lowe paces the team with 4.2 helpers per contest and a +2.6 assist/turnover ratio.
  • Kilian Brockhoff led five players in double figures with 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting to go with three triples and four assists, helping William & Mary keep pace with George Washington before falling, 99-86.
