TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (May 31, 2025) – Northeastern scored two runs in the ninth, highlighted by Gregory Bozzo’s tie-breaking solo homer, and held off Bethune-Cookman, 4-3, to stay alive in the NCAA Baseball Tallahassee Regional on Saturday afternoon at Dick Howser Stadium.
The Huskies (49-10) advance to play the loser of tonight’s Florida State/Mississippi State contest in another elimination game at Noon on Sunday. It was NU’s first victory in the NCAA Tournament since 1973.
With the game tied 2-2 in the top of the ninth, Bozzo launched his first homer of the season to left center to put the Huskies on top. NU tacked on another run when Jack Doyle reached on an error, advanced to second on a balk and came in on Ryan Gerety’s infield single.
Bethune-Cookman rallied for a run in the bottom of the ninth and had runners on second and third with one out, but NU’s Brett Dunham escaped the jam with a strikeout and a grounder back to the mound.
The Huskies got a strong effort from three pitchers in the game. Starter Jordan Gottesman held Bethune to a run on five hits and struck out six over the first 5.0 innings and Charlie Walker (4-0) followed by giving up a run over 3.0 frames with five strikeouts to earn the win. Dunham picked up his sixth save.
Northeastern jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first when Gerety doubled to lead off the game and scored on Harrison Feinberg’s sacrifice fly.
After the Wildcats drew even in the bottom of the fifth, the Huskies went back on top, 2-1, in the sixth when Feinberg doubled and came home on Jack Goodman’s RBI single. Bethune tied it back up at 2-2 with a run in the bottom of the eighth.
Goodman finished 2-for-3 and Gerety had a 2-for-4 afternoon to pace NU offensively.
