TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (June 1, 2025) – The record-setting season for the Northeastern baseball team came to a close on Sunday afternoon as the Huskies were edged, 3-2, by Mississippi State in the NCAA Tallahassee Regional.
Northeastern finished the season with a 49-11 record, setting CAA and program records for wins in a season. The mark included a nation’s best 27-game winning streak and the Huskies’ second CAA championship in school history. NU also won its first NCAA Tournament game since 1973.
Mississippi State grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but the Huskies cut the lead in half in the top of the fifth when Carmelo Musacchia singled, stole second and scored on Alex Lane’s two-out single up the middle.
After the Bulldogs tacked on a run in the bottom of the fifth, NU fought back in the seventh. Jack Goodman doubled to open the frame and the Huskies loaded the bases with a walk and hit batter. Another walk to Jack Doyle forced in Goodman to make it 3-2, but MSU was able to escape the jam.
Aiven Cabral (10-3) suffered the loss for NU after giving up three runs over 4.0 innings. The Huskies got strong work from the bullpen as Cooper McGrath threw three scoreless frames and Brett Dunham added another.
