RICHMOND, Va. (July 14, 2025) – Fifteen CAA players were chosen in the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft on Monday. The 15 selections were the most for the conference since 2019 (22 players) when the draft was 40 rounds instead of its current 20-round format.

UNCW and Northeastern led the way with five picks apiece. The five draftees were the most for the Seahawks since 2018, while the Huskies set a program record. Two Elon players were selected and Charleston, Hofstra and William & Mary each had one.

UNCW right-hander Zane Taylor, the 2025 CAA Pitcher of the Year, went in the fifth round to the Athletics. The San Francisco Giants quickly grabbed a pair of Northeastern standouts as left-handed pitcher Jordan Gottesman was taken in the sixth round followed by outfielder Cam Maldonado in the seventh round.

Three CAA players heard their names called in the eighth round with UNCW first baseman Tanner Thach going to the Colorado Rockies, Elon third baseman Ryan Sprock heading to the Minnesota Twins and William & Mary pitcher Carter Lovasz taken by the Atlanta Braves. The Twins followed in the ninth round by snaring Elon pitcher Justin Mitrovich.

In the 11th round, Hofstra second baseman Dylan Palmer was picked by the Pittsburgh Pirates and Charleston pitcher Jake Brink was chosen by the Cincinnati Reds.

Three UNCW players went off the board in the 13th round with catcher Bryant Arendt to the Athletics, pitcher Trace Baker to the Toronto Blue Jays and pitcher Aubrey Smith to the Houston Astros. Joining them in the 13th round was Northeastern shortstop Jack Goodman to the Detroit Tigers.

A pair of Northeastern pitchers were chosen in the 18th round as Cooper McGrath was chosen by the San Francisco Giants and Aiven Cabral was picked by the Atlanta Braves.
