CAA Volleyball Weekly Awards – Sept. 1, 2025

RICHMOND, Va. (Sept. 1, 2025)  North Carolina A&T Tyne Ross and Stony Brook’s Ava Zamora secured the first CAA Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week honors of the season, while standout performances from Northeastern’s Nadia Koanui and the Seawolves’ Mercedes Motton split Defensive Player of the Week recognition on Monday.
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tyne Ross, N.C. A&T
Sophomore | Outside Hitter | Cameron, N.C.
Ross helped the Aggies go undefeated during the Aggie/Phoenix Invitational. The CAA Preseason Player of the Year opened the weekend with a 20-kill, nine-dig performance in A&T's four-set win over Bethune-Cookman. She also had two service aces and three total blocks in the victory. The Cameron, N.C., product followed up with 23 kills and nine digs in a five-set win over Coppin State. She had a .298 hitting percentage for the weekend and averaged 4.78 kills and 2.0 digs in nine sets played.
 
CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Nadia Koanui, Northeastern
Senior | Libero | Kapolei, Hawaii
Koanui tallied 49 digs in a 2-1 week for the Huskies, averaging 4.08 digs per set and receiving at a .953 clip. The senior libero also chipped in 10 assists and a trio of service aces. She opened the weekend with 17 digs and a pair of assists to help first-year Head Coach Brendan McGourn earn his inaugural win with Northeastern. Koanui chipped in four assists in the final two matches against Holy Cross and New Hampshire, while posting 14 and 18 digs, respectively.
 
CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Mercedes Motton, Stony Brook
Redshirt Sophomore | Middle Blocker | Columbus, Ohio
Motton led the Seawolves to a 3-0 opening weekend with 14 total blocks at the Stony Brook Invite. She also added 15 kills and four digs to her final stat line. The redshirt sophomore recorded a weekend-high six blocks en route to a five-set win over Siena. The Columbus, Ohio product managed to chip in four blocks in both matchups against Central Connecticut State and Rhode Island, while unloading seven kills in the weekend finale against the Rams.
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Ava Zamora, Stony Brook
Freshman | Setter | San Diego, Calif.
Zamora guided the Seawolves to an undefeated weekend on Long Island with 115 assists, boasting 9.58 per set in the Stony Brook Invite. The freshman setter also picked up 12 kills, six service aces, 31 digs and three blocks in her first three collegiate starts. Zamora nearly posted a triple-double in her second career start, totaling 50 assists, 17 digs and going 9-of-12 on kill attempts against Siena. The San Diego, Calif., native rattled off seven digs in wins over Central Connecticut State and Rhode Island.
