CAA Football Weekly Awards - Sept. 22

RICHMOND, Va. (September 22, 2025) – CAA Football has announced its weekly award winners for Week 4 of the 2025 season. Monmouth junior wide receiver Josh Derry and Campbell sophomore wide receiver Randall King shared Offensive Player of the Week accolades while Rhode Island senior defensive back Justin Carcel earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. Towson junior punter Bryce LaFollette was named the Special Teams Player of the Week and Monmouth freshman defensive back Chris Palmer, Jr. was chosen as Rookie of the Week.
CAA Football Co-Offensive Player of the Week
Josh Derry, Jr., WR, Monmouth (Towson, Md./Concordia Prep)
Derry made eight receptions for 177 yards and 2 TD’s as Monmouth beat No. 11 Villanova, 51-33. The junior had a 77-yard TD grab just 46 seconds into the game and added a 16-yard score in the third quarter as the Hawks piled up 637 yards of offense. Derry has tallied 100+ receiving yards in all four games and tops FCS with 8 receiving TD’s.
CAA Football Co-Offensive Player of the Week
Randall King, So., WR, Campbell (Rocky Mount, N.C./Northern Nash)
King made eight receptions for 142 yards and tied a school record with 4 TD’s in Campbell’s 50-48 double-overtime win over Bryant. King made TD catches of 77 and 11 yards in a 1:43 stretch late in the 4
th quarter to give Campbell the lead and added a game-tying 3-yard TD grab on 4
th down in overtime. King also had 57 yards on three kickoff returns.
CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week
Justin Carcel, Sr., DB, Rhode Island (Port St. Lucie, Fla./Treasure Coast)
Carcel ended three LIU possessions with two interceptions and a pass breakup in Rhode Island’s 28-7 win over the Sharks. The senior picked off two passes in the first quarter, with the second one leading to the Rams’ first TD of the game. He also broke up a fourth-down pass at the URI 8-yard line, ending a drive. URI has held back-to-back opponents to single digits for the first time in 35 years.
CAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Bryce LaFollette, Jr., P, Towson (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Huntingtown)
LaFollette successfully executed two fake punts that led to touchdowns and averaged 40.7 yards on three punts in Towson’s 31-28 loss to Youngstown State. In the second quarter, he sprinted for a 19-yard first down run, setting up a TD that put the Tigers ahead, 14-7. In the third quarter, he completed a 14-yard pass on fourth down that led to a TD that put Towson up 21-14.
CAA Football Rookie of the Week
Chris Palmer, Jr., Fr., DB, Monmouth (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic)
Earning his first significant playing time of the season, Palmer contributed four tackles, a pass breakup and a fumble recovery in the red zone in Monmouth’s 51-33 victory over Villanova. The freshman defensive back stopped a Wildcats’ drive by recovering a fumble on the MU 6-yard line early in the second quarter.
