RICHMOND, Va. (September 29, 2025) – CAA Football has announced its weekly award winners for Week 5 of the 2025 season. Maine graduate quarterback Carter Peevy and Elon junior running back Jimmyll Williams shared Offensive Player of the Week accolades while Villanova senior linebacker Shane Hartzell earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. Villanova junior kick returner Ja’briel Mace was named the Special Teams Player of the Week and Towson freshman linebacker Ben Kumpon was chosen as Rookie of the Week.

CAA Football Co-Offensive Player of the Week
Carter Peevy, Gr., QB, Maine (Lawrenceville, Ga./Archer)

Peevy completed 20-of-27 passes (74.1%) for a season-high 298 yards and two touchdowns and added a TD on the ground as Maine defeated North Carolina A&T, 37-30. After scoring on a 2-yard run early in the contest, the grad student delivered an 81-yard TD throw late in the first half and a 6-yard strike in the third quarter that proved to be the difference in the game.

CAA Football Co-Offensive Player of the Week
Jimmyll Williams, Jr., RB, Elon (Durham, N.C./Hillside)

Williams rushed for a career-high 172 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries (13.2 ypc) as Elon rallied past Hampton, 41-20. The 172 yards were the most by an Elon back since 2022 and the third-most by a CAA player this season. He put the game away in the fourth quarter with a 45-yard run that set up a 14-yard TD rush with 1:54 to go.

CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week
Shane Hartzell, Sr., LB, Villanova (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge)

Hartzell registered a team-high 10 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks and two quarterback hurries in Villanova’s 31-24 win over William & Mary. The 4.0 TFL’s were a career-high and the most by any CAA player this season and the two sacks tied his career best. The 10 stops were a season high and the ninth time Hartzell has made double digit tackles.

CAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Ja’briel Mace, Jr., KR/RB, Villanova (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Huntingtown)

Mace opened the second half with a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to give Villanova a lead it wouldn’t surrender in a 31-24 victory over William & Mary. It was the Wildcats’ first TD on a kickoff return since 2019 and only the eighth of that length in program history. Mace finished the game with 138 all-purpose yards.

CAA Football Rookie of the Week
Ben Kumpon, Fr., LB, Towson (Avondale, Pa./Malvern Prep)

Kumpon recorded a career-high seven tackles in Towson’s 26-24 road victory at Bryant. The freshman linebacker, whose previous high was two tackles, was second on the team in stops and helped the Tigers win their CAA opener for the first time since 2019.
