The Rider transfer jumpstarted her week with an 18-point performance in a narrow double-overtime loss to N.C. A&T on Friday. Two days later, Collins took over the second half in a 72-67 victory over Monmouth. The sophomore dropped 19 points, including going 4-of-5 from distance, to snap the Hawks’ eight-game unbeaten streak.

NEWS AND NOTES

Remaining Perfect in Conference Play

After Monmouth’s loss to Northeastern, two teams remain undefeated in conference play: Charleston and Towson. The Cougars have gotten off to a 4-0 start, including wins over Hofstra, Northeastern, William & Mary, and Hampton. The start is the first of its kind in program history. Charleston previously began conference play 4-0 in both the 1996-97 season (TAAC) and the 2009-10 season (SoCon). Defeating Campbell, Hofstra, and UNCW, the Tigers’ 3-0 start is the best in over five years.

DOUBLE-OVERTIME THRILLER

It took double overtime, but N.C. A&T battled back from a 12-point first-half deficit to defeat Northeastern 84- 83. The Huskies dominated early, sprinting out to a 21-10 lead through the first 10 minutes. However, A&T started to heat up with two straight 20-point quarters. D’Mya Tucker had the hot hand, earning A&T its lead back in the third with her 13 points, including going 3-for-3 from deep. Trailing 71-66 with 22 seconds on the clock, Northeastern’s Yirsy Queliz was clutch, a draining 3-pointer in the final 10 seconds to send it to overtime. Deadlocked at 81 through the first five minutes, both teams headed into the second frame with a point to prove. Northeastern stole the lead quickly through Justice Tramble with 4:35 on the clock. The Huskies were held scoreless for the remainder of the frame, meaning Paris Locke’s driving layup with 10 seconds on the clock proved the decider.

Adding the first to the Win Column

Despite relinquishing a 17-point lead from the first half, Northeastern came back to defeat Monmouth 72-67 and snap the Hawks’ eight-game win streak. By the second quarter, Northeastern had built up a 23-6 advantage before Monmouth found its footing.  After a successful trip to the line for Alexis Andrews, Madalena Amaro sank a layup to jumpstart a 16-5 run to bring the Hawks within four to end the first half. After five-straight points to start the second, Monmouth retook the lead. Separated by one point to begin the fourth quarter, Tramble scored six straight to give Northeastern a lead it never gave back up. Four players reached double digits for the Huskies, including Camryn Collins, who had a team-high 19.

Defense Dominates Once Again

Campbell and Drexel were stellar on defense in their wins this weekend. For the Dragons, a 67-38 win over Hofstra tied for the seventh-lowest point total at home in conference play in program history. Scoring 67 in the win, Drexel’s 29-point victory was the largest NET point victory at home during conference play since. Campbell saw off William & Mary 45-43. Allowing the Tribe to 25.4% shooting from the floor, it was the second-lowest field goal percentage Campbell has allowed this season, and the lowest to a Division I opponent.
