RICHMOND, Va.  – Hofstra’s Cruz Davis has been recognized as the U.S. Basketball Writers Association’s Oscar Robertson National Mid-Major Player of the Month for December, as announced by the organization on Friday. The monthly award was introduced at the start of the 2025-26 season, making Davis the second-ever recipient of the honor and joining Kent State’s Delrecco Gillespie.

The Pride’s leading scorer capped off the final month of 2025 with consistent dominance against high-caliber adversaries. In five games against Division I opponents, Davis averaged 26.2 points on 54.7% shooting from the floor (47-86 FG) to go with 5.8 assists. He also picked up a pair of CAA Player of the Week honors, two Met Basketball Writers Association Player of the Week accolades and one USBWA National Player of the Week recognition.

The Plano, Texas native garnered that national recognition by unloading a career-high 36 points in an 80-73 road win over the ACC’s Pittsburgh, the starting point of the team’s current five-game winning streak. Davis went 14-for-25 from the floor with five treys and seven assists in a full 40 minutes of work. A week later, the junior guard toppled another ACC opponent, Syracuse, on the road without rest, logging a 22-point, nine-assist performance to edge the Orange, 70-69. Hofstra’s two victories over the ACC also proved to be Quad 2 wins in the NCAA NET Rankings.

Davis continued his dominant stretch with 27 points in the Pride’s 74-66 win against Quinnipiac, guiding the Pride to its ninth win of non-conference play. Preseason All-CAA selection opened CAA action with 22 points, seven assists and five rebounds to guide Hofstra to an 86-72 victory over Campbell.

Through 14 games, Davis is second in the league with 21.3 points per game (15th in NCAA), being one of five CAA players to knock down half of his shots this season with a 50.0% shooting clip from the floor. His 5.3 helpers per contest are also second among CAA players.
