Stony Brook’s Pratt Secures USBWA Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week
Dylan Smith
RICHMOND, Va. – Stony Brook’s
Erik Pratt added to his weekly awards collection as the graduate guard was named one of five Oscar Robertson National Players of the Week by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association on Wednesday.
With the honor, Pratt becomes the second CAA player this season to garner the national recognition, joining Hofstra’s Cruz Davis.
Pratt orchestrated a pair of wins over two of the league’s top teams, Hofstra and Charleston, playing all 90 minutes for the Seawolves. The Lake Worth, Fla., native racked up 28.5 points per game on 52.5% shooting from the floor (21-40 FG), adding 8.5 assists and 5.0 rebounds per contest.
Turning in not only one of the most impressive showings in the CAA this season, but one of the top performances in the nation, Pratt notched a career-high 39 points on 13-of-24 shooting with 13 helpers, seven rebounds and just two turnovers in 50 minutes of work. Pratt joined Siena’s Jalen Pickett (2019) as the only other player in NCAA Division I over the last two decades to record at least 35 points and 13 assists with two or fewer turnovers, per Elias Sports Bureau. His standout performance led Stony Brook to a 112-106 double-overtime win over Charleston, matching CAA history for the most combined points (218) scored in a single conference contest.
The Seawolves’ leading scorer started the week with an 18-point, four-assist effort with three rebounds in a 76-71 victory over Hofstra, giving the Pride their first loss in league play this season. Pratt enters the upcoming week sitting fourth in the CAA with 19.6 ppg.
Pratt joined Wisconsin’s John Blackwell, Florida’s Rueben Chinyelu, Maryland’s Diggy Coit and Kennesaw State’s RJ Johnson as the nation’s top players following last week’s action. The two-time CAA Player of the Week also secured his first Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Player of the Week honors on Tuesday.
