Hailey Longwell captured CAA Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Stony Brook teammates
Jona Hennings and
Lisa Muller secured Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week honors, respectively, on Monday.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Hailey Longwell, UNCW
Redshirt Junior | Forward | Moon Township, Pa.
Longwell was instrumental to UNCW’s 2-0 week, helping the Seahawks to a 2-1 win over Towson and a 3-0 shutout over Drexel. The redshirt junior wasted no time getting on the board in both contests, heading home a corner pass from Ava Vaughan in the first three minutes against the Tigers, and in similar fashion, she tapped in a cross from Caigan Leonard in the second minute to open a four-point effort against the Dragons. The forward out of Moon Township, Pa., notched her fourth assist of the season by setting up Abbey Pierson before scoring again in the 61st minute. Longwell leads the team with eight goals, 20 points and 44 shots in total.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jona Hennings, Stony Brook
Senior | Goalkeeper | Brake, Germany
Hennings shut out both of her opponents, Hampton and William & Mary, en route to a pair of pivotal conference victories for Stony Brook. Hennings made a combined seven saves across the two matches, picking up a pair of clean sheets with 1-0 wins over the Pirates and the Tribe. The back-to-back shutouts were Hennings' fifth and sixth of the season.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Lisa Muller, Stony Brook
Freshman | Defender | Zihlschlacht, Switzerland
Muller netted the game-winning goal in both of Stony Brook's wins in a 2-0-0 week. The Swiss defender converted from the penalty spot in a 1-0 victory over Hampton, scoring her first collegiate goal in the 43rd minute. Muller followed that up with a goal in the 72nd minute against William & Mary, sending a corner from Eela Oljemark into the back of the net and securing another 1-0 triumph.
