Nadia Wasilewski and Elaina Murphy secured CAA Volleyball Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week honors, respectively, while Hofstra’s
Geovanna Gonçalves Rocha secured Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Nadia Wasilewski, UNCW
Junior | Pin | Jackson, Mo.
Wasilewski helped the Seahawks to a 2-0 week by averaging 3.63 kills per set and hitting .328 against Northeastern. With 15 kills on Saturday, the junior has registered at least 14 kills in each of her last three outings and has crafted nine matches with double-digit kills. The Jackson, Mo., native produced a career-high four aces in each match against Northeastern and led UNCW with 38.5 points on the weekend.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Geovanna Gonçalves Rocha, Hofstra
Freshman | MB | Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Gonçalves Rocha was stellar for Hofstra in their two victories over Campbell, averaging 2.43 blocks and 1.43 kills per set. The victories extended Hofstra’s win streak to seven consecutive matches and moved the Pride to 6-0 in CAA play. The Brazilian middle blocker had an astounding 17 blocks to go with 10 kills over the two matches to help the Pride. On Friday, the freshman had eight blocks and seven kills on a .600 clip, committing just one attack error. Gonçalves Rocha followed up with a nine-block performance on Saturday and also added a trio of kills. The eight blocks on Friday are tied for the most by an individual in the CAA in a three-set match, and the nine blocks on Saturday are tied for the most by an individual in the CAA this season in a four-set match.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Elaina Murphy, UNCW
Freshman | Pin | Mount Airy, Md.
Murphy produced 25 kills and 20 digs in a pair of four-set wins over Northeastern. The freshman posted a double-double in each match against the Huskies, starting with an 11-kill, 10-dig effort on Friday. The Mount Airy, Md., product matched her season-best with 14 kills on a .481 hitting clip to go with 10 more digs on Saturday. Murphy has reached double-digit kills in four of her last five matches.
