CAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Dovydas Butka, Campbell
Sophomore | Forward | Panevezys, Lithuania
Butka dazzled in a 2-0 week for the Camels, posting 21.5 points per game on 54.2% shooting from the floor (13-24 FG) and 85.0% from the line (17-20 FT). The Lithuanian product averaged a double-double last week after pulling down 10.0 rebounds, while logging 2.5 steals per contest. The sophomore forward went off for a 26-point, 10-rebound, four-steal performance in an 81-60 victory over one of the league’s top defenses, Drexel. He shot 9-of-15 from the floor and 8-for-10 at the line, while pulling down six of his 10 boards on the offensive glass. Butka’s 26 points were the second-most among the league’s top scoring outputs last week. The 6-foot-9 big man followed up with his ninth double-double of the season, posting 17 points and 10 rebounds in a 79-71 victory at North Carolina A&T.
CAA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Preston Edmead, Hofstra
Freshman | Guard | Deer Park, N.Y.
Edmead became the third CAA freshman to win at least seven CAA Rookie of the Week honors after leading the Pride to a perfect 2-0 week. The Deer Park, N.Y., native averaged 18.0 points on 47.8% shooting from the floor (11-23 FG), 61.5% from distance (8-13 3FG) and perfect from the line (6-6 FT). The Pride’s rookie also registered 8.5 assists and 7.0 rebounds per game, while producing a +4.3 assist/turnover ratio. Edmead poured in a game-high 23 points, added a career-high nine rebounds, and tied his career-high with eight assists in an 80-63 win over Northeastern. The freshman guard impressed again with 13 points, five rebounds and a career-high nine assists in a 71-49 triumph over Towson.
CAA IN THE NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT
The CAA will be featured five times on national television in four days, starting with North Carolina A&T and Hampton in the 2026 NBA HBCU Classic on Friday. The battle at NBA All-Star 2026 between the Aggies and the Pirates will air on
ESPN2, NBATV,
NBC Sports Network and Peacock, with Michael Grady, Danny Green and Monica McNutt on the call. Fans can also listen live on
SiriusXM.
CBS Sports Network will broadcast four CAA conference games in three days, starting with a 4 p.m. showdown between Hofstra and UNCW inside Trask Coliseum on Saturday.
With football wrapped up, the CAA will take over on Sunday with another doubleheader, starting with a battle between Charleston and Campbell at 5 p.m. Monmouth will host Towson in the following game, with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.
Drexel will head to Long Island to face Stony Brook on Monday evening, closing out the loaded weekend of national broadcasts witha primetime matchup slated to tip at 8 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT - WEEKEND EDITION
UNCW eclipsed the 20-win threshold for the fifth-straight season following its largest road victory, 76-64, against Charleston, also snapping the Cougars’ five-game winning streak. All five of the Seahawks’ starters reached double figures in scoring, led by Greedy Williams and his team-high 16 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the floor with a pair of triples. Patrick Wessler registered his league-best 12th double-double of the season with 15 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Christian May also logged a 14-point effort with two 3-pointers in the visitors’ win on Monday. Nolan Hodge recorded 12 points with a trio of treys, while Noah Ross rounded out those in double figures with 11 points and eight rebounds. The Seahawks outscored the Cougars in the paint, 38-26, while logging 17 second-chance tallies. UNCW picked up its sixth consecutive victory against Charleston.
Drexel picked up its fourth win in its last five games with an 82-77 victory over Elon on Saturday. Eli Beard went 6-of-7 from the floor and 4-of-5 from distance en route to 16 points and three assists. Victor Panov and Shane Blakeney also tallied an identical 15 points with a trio of 3-pointers and four rebounds to their final lines. Garfield Turner chipped in a 14-point, 12-rebound double-double, while adding three assists. Drexel’s reserves outscored its opposition’s bench, 26-3, in the victory.
A 24-point, eight-rebound showing from Jeremiah Johnson propelled Campbell to a 79-71 victory at North Carolina A&T on Saturday. The sophomore guard went 8-of-12 from the floor with three triples, while dishing out four assists. Dovydas Butka notched his ninth double-double of the season, with nine of his 17 points coming at the charity stripe and pulling down 10 boards along the way. DJ Smith rounded out those in double figures with 14 points. The Camels outscored the Aggies on the fastbreak, 23-12, and sank 47.3% of their shots from the field (26-55 FG).
Hampton continued to be one of the best teams at home after moving to 9-1 at Convocation Center following a 77-74 victory over William & Mary on Saturday. Etienne Strothers saw four of his five makes come from distance and knocked down four free throws en route to an 18-point performance. Elijah Kennedy and Xzavier Long chipped in 13 points apiece, with the latter pulling down 14 boards.
Stony Brook earned its sixth win in its last seven games following a 69-55 home victory over Northeastern on Saturday. Erik Pratt went 6-for-11 from the floor to finish with 13 points and five boards. Jonah Butler and Andrej Shoshkikj chipped in 10 points and four rebounds apiece, seeing the latter notch a team-high five assists. Nine players scored in the winning effort, helping the Seawolves shoot 48.0% from the floor (24-50 FG).
A 20-point showing from Biggie Patterson led Hofstra to a season sweep of Towson with a 71-49 victory on Saturday. The senior guard went 6-for-10 from the floor and matched a season high with three trifectas. Cruz Davis chipped in 16 points, five boards, five helpers and a pair of steals in the win. Preston Edmead nearly registered a double-double with 13 points, nine assists and five rebounds. The Pride captured its first true home-and-home season sweep of the Tigers since the 2019 campaign.
FEBRUARY FRENZY CONTINUES
Charleston will welcome Hofstra for a 7 p.m. tilt on FloCollege. The Cougars hold a narrow 12-10 advantage in the series, including a four-game winning streak over the Pride. CofC edged out a 66-64 victory in their Jan. 29 meeting on Long Island, seeing Jlynn Counter notch 22 points, 10 boards, five assists and a pair of blocks in the win. Hofstra will look to secure its first win inside TD Arena since an 85-81 victory on Jan. 28, 2023.
UNCW will host Elon inside Trask Coliseum in a 7 p.m. showdown on Thursday. The Seahawks also hold a one-game lead, 17-16, in the all-time series. The Phoenix will look to capture its third straight road win over UNCW, having secured a 73-72 win in their last time in Wilmington thanks to a tip-in buzzer beater from Isaac Harrell.
William & Mary will head north to take on Northeastern in a 7 p.m. battle on FloCollege. The Tribe and the Huskies have split their last four meetings. Northeastern earned a 72-68 victory in its last home showdown against W&M on Jan. 27, 2024. Thursday marks the first of two meetings between both programs in the next two weeks.
Towson and Stony Brook will link up inside SECU Arena on Thursday with tip-off slated for 7 p.m. on FloCollege. The Tigers have earned five straight wins over the Seawolves, including a 66-59 road victory on Feb. 6, 2025. Dylan Williamson led with 17 points. Stony Brook has won six of its last seven games entering the contest.
Monmouth will travel across state lines to square off with Drexel in a 7 p.m. game on FloCollege. The Dragons will look to make it three straight wins over the Hawks after earning a 73-51 victory on the road on Jan. 15. Shane Blakeney led the charge with 18 points and seven boards, while holding Monmouth’s top scorer Jason Rivera-Torres (16.0 ppg) to just four points, his lowest output of the season.
CAMPBELL CAMELS (12-13; 6-6 CAA)
- The Camels are on a three-game winning streak, outscoring the opposition by 12.3 ppg. DJ Smith has kept pace with 23.0 ppg on 43.4% shooting. Jeremiah Johnson has been the difference maker during the streak, averaging 20.3 ppg on 55.3% shooting, 5.0 rpg and 4.0 apg.
- Dovydas Butka has also come on strong during the team’s recent success with 15.0 ppg, 9.3 rpg and 2.3 spg. Chris Fields Jr. has produced double figures in reserve with 10.3 ppg and 5.7 rpg.
CHARLESTON COUGARS (16-9; 9-3 CAA)
- Despite falling at home for the first time in conference play, Jlynn Counter has found a rhythm inside TD Arena during CAA action with 17.7 ppg, on 55.6% shooting from the floor (40-72 FG). He also logged 6.1 apg, 4.3 rpg and 2.3 spg in those seven league home games.
- Christian Reeves has flirted with a double-double during the same stretch with 14.0 ppg and 9.4 rpg in 24.2 minutes per game.
- CofC has won five of its last six games.
DREXEL DRAGONS (13-12; 7-5 CAA)
- The Dragons have won four of their last five games. Josh Reed has stepped up in his role off the bench, averaging 12.4 ppg on 49.0% shooting from the floor.
- Drexel has been steady defensively, holding the opposition to 60 points or fewer on nine occasions this season, good for the CAA’s top spot. In conference play alone, Drexel has surrendered just 63.3 ppg, while seeing the opposition connect on 26.7% of their attempts from deep.
ELON PHOENIX (13-11; 5-6 CAA)
- Chandler Cuthrell ranks second in the conference and 15th in NCAA Division I with 20.9 ppg. The Phoenix’s top scorer has logged double-digit scoring efforts in 23 of 24 outings this season, including 20-point efforts on 16 occasions and his lone 30-point showing coming against Hampton on Feb. 5 (32 pts).
- Cuthrell also controls 33.5% of Elon’s possessions and takes 32.5% of the squad’s shots when he is on the court, according to KenPom, both top 25 marks.
HAMPTON PIRATES (12-13; 6-6 CAA)
- The Pirates picked up their first win over William & Mary since 2023. Hampton moved to 9-1 inside Convocation Center this season and has won 13 of their last 14 contests at home.
- Hampton’s win over Elon on Thursday marked the team’s first double-overtime victory since taking down Northern Arizona, 98-94, on Dec. 2, 2015.
HOFSTRA PRIDE (16-9; 7-5 CAA)
- Hofstra has won three consecutive games, led by Cruz Davis and Preston Edmead. Davis is shooting at a 52.6% clip from the floor to go with 18.7 ppg, 5.0 apg and a +3.0 a/t ratio.
- Edmead has been equally as steady for the Pride with 16.3 ppg with a 45.5% efficiency from deep, logging 16.3 ppg, 8.3 apg, 6.0 rpg and a +2.8 a/t ratio.
MONMOUTH HAWKS (12-12; 6-5 CAA)
- The Hawks have emerged victorious in three of their last four games, led by 19.0 ppg, 10.0 rpg, 3.8 apg and 2.8 spg from Jason Rivera-Torres. Justin Ray (12.5 ppg) and Cornelius Robinson Jr. (11.5 ppg) are both averaging double figures after seeing appearances in all four contests.
- Monmouth boasts the best turnover margin in the CAA with a +2.2 mark. The Hawks have the top two pickpockets in the league win Rivera-Torres (2.2 spg) and Jack Collins (1.9 spg). The duo has also been instrumental in protecting the ball, each logging a +1.5 assist/turnover ratio or better.
N.C. A&T AGGIES (9-14; 2-10 CAA)
- The Aggies’ Lewis Walker remains sixth among freshmen nationally with 19.1 ppg. Walker has logged double-digit scoring performances in 20 of his 22 appearances this season. His 33-point efforts against W&M and Towson were the most by a CAA freshman in a league game since James Madison’s Matt Lewis posted 33 points against Charleston on Feb. 15, 2018.
- N.C. A&T’s Zamoku Weluche-Ume has registered 12.1 points and 8.3 rebounds per contest. He also has six double-doubles in league action. Trent Middleton Jr. has chipped in 11.5 ppg in 12 conference games.
UNCW SEAHAWKS (20-4; 9-2 CAA)
- UNCW became the first CAA team to reach the 20-win plateau this season with a win over Charleston on Thursday. It marked the fifth straight season the Seahawks have registered 20 or more victories.
- Patrick Wessler leads the CAA and ranks 14th in the nation with 12 double-doubles this season. His 61.0% shooting from the floor also tops the CAA leaderboard (12th in NCAA), while logging 13.5 ppg and 9.2 rpg.
NORTHEASTERN HUSKIES (6-17; 2-10 CAA)
- Mike Loughnane has been valuable over the last three games, logging 14.7 ppg on 48.7% shooting. Xavier Abreu has also averaged double figures, 10.0 ppg, over that span.
- William Kermoury is sixth in scoring with 19.2 ppg in league action, while averaging 4.1 triples per game. Kermoury went off for 36 points against Charleston, the most points by a Husky since Tyson Walker in 2021. He knocked down 15 shots, tied for the fourth most made field goals in a game and the most since Jordan Roland in 2019.
STONY BROOK SEAWOLVES (15-10; 7-5 CAA)
- Stony Brook has won six of its last seven games, led by stellar efforts from Erik Pratt. The Seawolves’ top scorer has logged 21.1 ppg on 45.3% shooting to go with 6.1 rpg and 5.6 apg.
- Andrej Shoshkikj has been equally as effective for SBU with 16.7 ppg on 56.3% shooting from the floor and 53.7% shooting from distance over the last seven games. The freshman guard has also posted 5.1 rpg, 3.7 apg and 1.7 spg during that stretch. Richard Goods (11.4 ppg) and Ethan Simmon (10.5 ppg) are also averaging in double figures.
TOWSON TIGERS (13-12; 5-7 CAA)
- Towson is one of the nation’s best offensive rebounding teams, pulling down 13.8 per contest (15th in NCAA). Caleb Embeya is 18th in the country in offensive rebounding efficiency, according to KenPom, pulling down 16.6% of his chances.
- The Tigers will welcome Stony Brook on Thursday, looking to stay unbeaten against the Seawolves. Towson has won all five matchups, including a 66-59 victory in its last meeting on Feb. 6, 2025.
WILLIAM & MARY TRIBE (15-9; 6-6 CAA)
- The Tribe completed its first regular season sweep of UNCW since the 2017-18 campaign. W&M has given the Seahawks two of their four losses this season, registering a 77-70 home victory on Jan. 22 before its 85-78 triumph at Trask Coliseum on Feb. 5. It also marked the eighth time the Tribe has swept the season series with the Seahawks during their time in the CAA, per Tribe Athletics.
- William & Mary is 9-1 inside Kaplan Arena this season. The Tribe is also 21-3 at home under the direction of Head Coach Brian Earl since his arrival.
