CAA BASEBALL WEEKLY REPORT - FEB. 23

RICHMOND, Va. (February 23, 2026) – William & Mary sophomore infielder Jamie Laskofski was selected as the CAA baseball Player of the Week, while UNCW junior right-hander Cooper Allen earned CAA Pitcher of the Week honors. William & Mary freshman infielder Matthew Kosuda received CAA Rookie of the Week accolades.

CAA Baseball Player of the Week
Jamie Laskofski, William & Mary – So., IF – Burke, Va.
Laskofski batted .545 (6-11) with two triples, four runs scored and five RBI’s as William & Mary took two-of-three from Binghamton last weekend. The sophomore had at least one hit and an RBI in all three games, including a 3-for-5 outing in the opener and a 2-for-3 effort with a three-run triple in Saturday’s 10-5 win. Laskofski, who walked four times in the series, is hitting .455 with eight RBI’s for the season.

CAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Cooper Allen, UNCW – Jr., RHP – Wake Forest, N.C.
Allen turned in his second straight impressive start, limiting Fordham to three hits over a career-long 6.0 shutout innings in a 19-0 victory last Saturday. The right-hander struck out a career-high 10 and didn’t issue a walk. For the season, Allen is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA over 11.0 innings and has 15 K’s and no walks.

CAA Baseball Rookie of the Week
Matthew Kosuda, William & Mary – Fr., IF – Mountainside, N.J.
Kosuda batted .500 (5-10) with a double, homer and six RBI’s in William & Mary’s series win over Binghamton. The freshman smacked a three-run homer in the opener, was 2-for-4 with a double in Saturday’s first game and followed with a 2-for-3 effort with two RBI’s in the finale. Kosuda is batting .364 for the season.

CONFERENCE NOTES

CHARLESTON KNOCKS OFF #6 COASTAL
Charleston earned its first win over a Top 10 opponent since 2022 by beating #6 Coastal Carolina, 4-3, last Tuesday. Carter Harrington struck out seven over 3.0 innings in his first collegiate start and Kurt Rogers finished with 3.0 shutout frames. Jackson Berini’s sac fly in the 8th plated the winning run.

TOWSON OFF TO STRONG START
Towson is off to its best start since 2017 at 4-2 after winning two-of-three at New Mexico State last weekend. Catcher Brian Heckelman homered twice in the series.

SEAHAWKS SHUTOUTS
UNCW allowed just two earned runs across 32 innings last week, which included three shutout wins (Merrimack, Fordham twice). The Seahawks, whose 2.29 team ERA ranks 11th nationally, have been led by Cooper Allen, who hasn’t given up a run over 11.0 frames this season and has 15 strikeouts.

LOOKING AHEAD
It’s another week of challenging games for CAA teams. North Carolina A&T travels to #8 North Carolina and Campbell visits #9 Coastal Carolina on Tuesday. UNCW welcomes Duke on Tuesday prior to weekend home series with UConn. Charleston plays neutral site games this week against East Carolina and Illinois. Northeastern heads to Baton Rouge and will face #2 LSU on Saturday and next Monday. 

CAMPBELL CAMELS (3-4; 0-0 CAA)

• The Camels picked up an impressive 2-1 win over East Carolina last Tuesday but dropped 2-of-3 at Troy.

• Mason Smith held ECU to three hits over 5.1 shutout innings and fanned five and Jett Music threw 1.1 scoreless frames to earn his second save.

• Trent Rumley batted .385 for the week with seven runs scored from the leadoff spot. He homered on the first pitch of the game in Saturday’s 13-1 win at Troy.

• Freshman Carlos Lugo prodced five hits in the final two games at Troy to raise his season average to .273.

CHARLESTON COUGARS (3-5; 0-0 CAA)

• The Cougars knocked off #6 Coastal Carolina, 4-3, last Tuesday and won the finale of their 3-game series with South Alabama.

• CofC rallied for five runs in the final three frames vs. USA on Sunday and won the game (7-6) on a walk off 2-run homer by Braeden Smith.
 
• Reece Holbrook had five hits in the two wins last week, going 2-for-4 with an RBI at Coastal and 3-for-4 vs. USA.
 
• Dylan Johnson was 3-for-4 with two RBI’s on Sunday to up his average to .333.

ELON PHOENIX (4-3; 0-0 CAA)

• Elon beat Presbyterian, 6-4, to start the season 4-0 for the first time since 2015, but then was swept in a weekend series at Charleston Southern.

• Vince Fattore continued his strong start with a 3-run homer vs. PC, while Brian DuRoff added a solo shot.

• Jackson Alford batted .571 (8-14) for the week with five runs scored and three RBI’s. He’s hitting .500 for the season.

• Sam Nomura has yet to allow a run in four relief outings spanning 8.1 innings.

HOFSTRA PRIDE (0-3; 0-0 CAA)

• The Pride had their three-game series with Iona cancelled last weekend due to weather.

• Nick Gallello tops Hofstra with a .455 batting average. He had a hit in all three games at Mississippi State, including a career-best three hits and three RBI’s in the opener.

• Gabriel Melara batted .417 in the Mississippi State series and scored a pair of runs.

• Preseason All-CAA pitcher Carlos Martinez made a successful return from Tommy John surgery at MSU, striking out five in 3.2 innings of work.

MONMOUTH HAWKS (1-5; 0-0 CAA)

• The Hawks dropped three weekend games in Florida, falling to nationally ranked Virginia, North Dakota State and host Stetson.

• Freshman Sam Saucke stayed hot, hitting .273 with a team-best five RBI’s for the weekend. He scored three runs against UVA and drove in four versus Stetson. Saucke tops MU in batting (.391), runs (8) and RBI’s (9).

• Alec Couture recorded eight strikeouts in 5.0 innings against NDSU and has fanned 10 in 9.0 frames for the season.

N.C. A&T AGGIES (2-5; 0-0 CAA)

• The Aggies lost four games, including two by just one run, to open the week but defeated Queens, 6-3, on Sunday.

• Outfielder Nick DeCarlo batted .400 for the week. He was 3-for-5 with a double, triple and a RBI in the win over Queens.

• Tyler Smith smacked a double and a homer while driving in three in a 6-5 loss to NIU last Monday. He leads the Aggies with eight RBI’s.

• Starter Angel Ortiz struck out six in 3.0 innings of work and Aiden Hansen provide 3.0 scoreless frames in relief in the win over Queens. 

UNCW SEAHAWKS (4-3; 0-0 CAA)

• UNCW’s pitching staff allowed just two earned runs in a 3-1 week that featured three shutouts, lowering the team ERA to a CAA-best 2.29.

• Cooper Allen gave up three hits over 6.0 scoreless innings and fanned 10 to get the win vs. Fordham. Allen is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 11 innings of work.

• Jake Bechtel was 4-for-4 and tied a program record with four doubles in Game 2 vs. Fordham. He added four runs and five RBI’s in the victory.

• JP Pennella is batting ,529 with 9 runs through seven games. He was 6-for-8 in the Fordham series.

NORTHEASTERN HUSKIES (0-5; 0-0 CAA)

• The Huskies fell in both weekend games against Minnesota in Florida. Four of NU’s five losses this season have come against Big Ten teams.

• Harrison Feinberg went 3-for-7 vs. the Gophers with a double and run scored to raise his average to .263.

• Ryan Gerety was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI’s in the two games with Minnesota.

• Carmelo Musacchia is hitting a team-best .421 with six runs scored and four stolen bases.

STONY BROOK SEAWOLVES (0-7; 0-0 CAA)

• The Seawolves were swept in a four-game series at #5 Georgia Tech. SBU held a 5-2 lead in Game 3 of the series but fell 6-5 in 10 innings.

• Scott Gell had a hit in all three games he played at GT, finishing 3-for-6 with three RBI’s.

• James Schaffer is on a 5-game hitting streak after batting .400 (4-10) with two doubles in the series with the Yellow Jackets. 

• John Rizzo has allowed just one run over 5.0 innings in three relief appearances this season.

TOWSON TIGERS (4-2; 0-0 CAA)

• The Tigers won their second straight series, taking 2-of-3 at New Mexico State. Towson is off to its best start to a season since 2017.

• Brian Heckelman batted .357 (5-14) with two homers, three runs scored and four RBI’s at NMSU. Both homers and all three RBI’s came in the two wins.
 
• Frank Adamski, Jr. had three hits and two RBI’s at NMSU and tops the team with a .450 average. He has multiple hits in three of his six games.

• Liam Diehl hasn’t given up an earned run in two starts this season and has fanned 12 in 9.0 innings.

WILLIAM & MARY TRIBE (2-4; 0-0 CAA)

• W&M swept a Saturday doubleheader to take its home-opening series against Binghamton.

• Jamie Laskofski batted .545 (6-11) with two triples and five RBI’s vs. BU. He leads W&M in batting (.455), runs (9) and RBI’s (8).
 
• Matthew Kosuda hit .500 with a homer and six RBI’s vs. BU, including a game-winning sac fly in the finale.

• Tom Bourque held BU to one hit over 4.0 scoreless innings and struck out six in the series finale. He has a 0.00 ERA over 6.0 frames this season.
