CAA WOMEN’S BASKETBALL RECAP – MAR. 1

RICHMOND, Va. (Mar. 1, 2026) – Overtime classics and defensive masterclasses headlined the final Sunday of the women’s basketball season. 
 
Hofstra 45, Monmouth 44

Hofstra had one of its best defensive performances of the season, defeating Monmouth 45-44. The Hawks' point tally marked the fewest the Pride has allowed in a conference matchup this season, and matched their lowest of the 2025-26 campaign. After a 6-2 run from Monmouth to start the quarter, Hofstra found itself down 42-37 with 7:41 to play. Emma Von Essen cut Monmouth’s lead down to three with a layup before over four minutes of scoreless basketball. The senior stopped the scorless drought with a 3-pointer, but Divine Dibula regave Monmouth a 42-44 lead one possession later. Two scoreless plays later, Von Essen scored the game winner, drilling a trey with 1:53 on the clock. As a part of restricting Monmouth to 28.8% shooting from the field and 11.8% from deep, the Pride limited the Hawks to 1-of-9 shooting to closeout the game. Von Essen scored all her eight points in the fourth quarter. Dibula was the sole player in the game to reach double-digit points, scoring 10.
 
Drexel 65, N.C. A&T 63 (OT)

Drexel distanced itself from N.C. A&T in overtime to win 65-63. Trailing by as many as 13 points midway through the third quarter, Drexel came back late in the fourth quarter to force overtime. With 1:38 on the clock and down 56-53, Drexel’s Julia Garcia Roig pulled up from distance and drilled a 3-pointer. Just 29 seconds later, Amaris Baker ran down the court on the fast break to give the Dragons the lead, before Chaniya Clark tied the game at 58 to send it to overtime. Heading into the fifth frame, Drexel had the Aggies number. Baker scored the first three points of the quarter before Molly Rullo and Deja Evans found the cup as a part of a 7-2 run. A&T came as close as two points with a minute to go, but was unable to overcome the Dragons’ performances from the charity striple. Baker scored an impressive 25 points, including 14 in the second half. Clark had a 17-point and 10-rebound double-double.
 
 
Campbell 59, Charleston 57

Campbell wasn’t fazed after it gave up a 10-point lead, storming back to defeat Charleston 59-57. The Camels dominated early on, outscoring the Cougars 16-6 in the first quarter. Despite taking three more shots, Charleston was limited to just 2-of-17 shooting from the floor. Letting up a 10-1 run to close the third quarter, Ronny Fisher’s team trailed 45-37. Another 6-2 run from Charleston in the fourth quarter set the Camels back 10 before momentum began to swing. Gianni Boone and N’Na Konate combined to pull Campbell within five before two consecutive treys from Olivia Tucker and Jasmine Nivar made it a one-possession game with 2:30 to play. Two free throws from Charleston’s Taryn Babrot made it a 57-53 game before Tucker repeated from range to pull the contest within one. With 19 on the clock, Campbell found itself on the fast break. Jasmine Nivar got to the cup and sank the game-winner with 19 seconds on the clock as a part of a 7-0 run in the final 1:07 of the game. Charleston was held 0-of-7 from the field through the final minutes of the contest.
 
Stony Brook 62, Elon 58

Stony Brook battled back to defeat Elon 62-58. With less than eight minutes remaining in the game, the Seawolves found themselves down 48-43. A 9-4 run including a Diaka Berete trey ball, leveled the game at 52, before Stony Brook started to pull ahead. Janay Brantley sank a free throw with 4:18 on the clock before another 3-pointer from Berete earned a 56-52 lead. For the final 2:49, the Seawolves were held scoreless from the field, but had to rely on their performances from the charity stripe. Sandra Frau-Garcia and Caitlin Frost had two perfect trips in the span of 17 seconds, ultimately pushing the game out of reach for Elon. Berete led her team with 17 points and five assists.  LaNae' Corbett paced the field with 19 points.
 
Hampton 77, Northeastern 71

Deadlocked at the top of the fourth quarter, Hampton pulled ahead to defeat Northeastern 77-71. Less than 15 seconds into the start of the final frame, Oliva Smith scored for the Pirates to knot the game at 56. Both teams traded buckets, with Northeastern pulling ahead by as many as three with 4:44 on the clock. After Morgan Matthews' bucket put the Huskies up big, Hampton went on a run. First came a Kiarra McElrath layup, before buckets from Smith and Gibson put Tamisha Augustin’s team up 69-66. Two separate trips to the line pulled Northeastern within one, but an and-one layup with 1:14 on the clock from Smith ultimately sealed the win. Smith saw seven of her 12 points fall in the final frame. Northeastern’s Justice Tramble led the floor with 24 points.
 
William & Mary 60, UNCW 41

William & Mary excelled defensively, earning a 60-41 win over UNCW. The Tribe restricted its opponents to 12 or fewer points in each frame, including just five in the fourth. Establishing a 47-38 advantage heading into the final quarter, the Seahawks were restricted to 2-of-10 shooting from the floor and held scoreless for the final 4:12 minutes of the matchup. Offensively, William & Mary got double-digit scoring performances from three players: Cassidy Geddes (12), Monet Dance (11), and Marley Long (10). Mary Ferrito led the game with 18 points alongside five assists for UNCW.
