RICHMOND, Va. – Shortly after securing CAA Pitcher of the Week honors, UNCW’s Camille Hamilton received national recognition with her six-inning perfect game after being named D1Softball’s Mid-Major Freshman of the Week on Tuesday.

Hamilton notched the first recorded perfect game in the Seahawks’ softball history to open CAA play with an 8-0 win over N.C. A&T on Friday. The Seahawks’ pitcher became just the second freshman nationally to toss a perfect game this season, joining Alabama’s Kaitlyn Pallozzi. The Garner, N.C., native unloaded just 69 pitches in just her fourth career start and punched out a season-high 11 batters across her six innings of work.

After making a relief appearance on Sunday, Hamilton finished the weekend with a 2-0 record, 9.1 scoreless innings, 16 total strikeouts and no walks for the Seahawks.

Hamilton has appeared in 15 games this season, currently second in the CAA with two shutouts and a 2.30 ERA. The right-hander also paces the league and sits 11th in the nation with a 7.0 strikeout-to-walk ratio, while averaging 8.6 punchouts per seven innings (32nd in NCAA) and posting 56 in total. Her six wins on the campaign are also tied for fifth in the conference.
