CAA BASEBALL WEEKLY REPORT - MARCH 2

RICHMOND, Va. (March 2, 2026) – Charleston freshman infielder/outfielder Jake Amman was chosen as the CAA baseball Player of the Week, while Elon freshman right-hander Aidan Stieglitz received CAA Pitcher of the Week honors. William & Mary freshman infielder Matthew Kosuda repeated as CAA Rookie of the Week.

CAA Baseball Player of the Week
Jake Amman, Charleston – Fr., IF/OF – James Island, S.C.
Amman batted .667 (8-12) with a double, homer, four runs scored and six RBI’s in Charleston’s three games last week. The freshman went 3-for-4 and belted a game-tying grand slam in the 8th vs. East Carolina. He was 4-for-5 in an 8-7 victory over James Madison, scoring the game-tying run in the 9th and delivering a walk-off single in the 10th. Amman, who is batting .407 for the year, closed the week with a 1-for-3 effort against Illinois.

CAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Aidan Stieglitz, Elon – Fr., RHP – Basking Ridge, N.J.
Stieglitz was part of Elon’s first no-hitter since 2017 as the Phoenix beat defending MAAC champion Fairfield, 3-0, last Saturday. The right-hander carried a perfect game into the 8th, retiring the first 23 batters he faced before issuing a walk. He finished with seven strikeouts over 7.2 no-hit innings, which was the longest outing for an Elon freshman since 2017.

CAA Baseball Rookie of the Week
Matthew Kosuda, William & Mary – Fr., IF – Mountainside, N.J.
Kosuda repeats as Rookie of the Week after batting .400 (4-10) with six runs scored and eight RBI’s in William & Mary’s three-game sweep of Lafayette. The freshmen scored twice and drove in multiple runs in all three games, going 2-for-3 with a game-tying homer and four RBI’s in Friday’s 10-3 win and driving in two in each of the final two contests. Kosuda is on a six-game hitting streak and tops W&M with a .375 average.

CONFERENCE PLAY CRANKS UP
Conference play in the CAA gets started this weekend with five series starting on Friday. In the North, Stony Brook hosts defending champ Northeastern and Monmouth heads to Towson. In the South, Campbell welcomes William & Mary and North Carolina A&T makes the short trip to Elon. The lone cross-divisional series features Hofstra visiting Charleston. That series was moved from New York to South Carolina due to last weekend’s snow.

ELON NO-HITTER HEADLINES STELLAR PITCHING PERFORMANCES
Elon threw its first no-hitter since 2017 in a 3-0 win over Fairfield last Saturday. Aidan Stieglitz, Mike Staiano and RJ Latkowski combined on the accomplishment.

The no-hitter headlined a weekend of strong pitching performances. Monmouth’s Tommy Kent (6.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 10 K’s), Stony Brook’s Micah Worley (6.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 11 K’s), UNCW’s Cooper Allen (8.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 10 K’s), Elon’s Brian Strange (6.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 11 K’s) and Northeastern’s Andrew Wertz (5.0 IP, 0 R, 7 K’s) all threw well.

LOOKING AHEAD
This week’s non-conference slate is highlighted by Northeastern getting a rematch at #2 LSU on Monday night and Elon visiting #8 North Carolina on Tuesday. UNCW hosts rival East Carolina on Wednesday before a weekend series at a Jacksonville team receiving votes in the NCBWA Top 25 poll.

CAMPBELL CAMELS (4-7; 0-0 CAA)

• The Camels beat Wright State, 7-3, on Saturday as part of a 1-3 week.

• Jonah Oster drove in four in the win over WSU, including a game-tying 3-run homer. He’s riding a 7-game hitting streak and is batting .300 for the year.

• The Camels didn’t allow an earned run in the WSU victory, with David Rossow (1-1) throwing five innings and Owen Simmons following with 4 K’s over 3.0 scoreless frames.

• Logan Chapman had a hit in all four games last week, batting .375 (6-16) with a double, triple, homer and four runs scored.

CHARLESTON COUGARS (4-7; 0-0 CAA)

• The Cougars went 1-2 against a challenging slate last week, defeating JMU, 8-7, in 10 innings on Friday.

• Freshman Jake Amman hit .667 (8-12) and drove in six last week. He was 3-for-4 and belted a game-tying grand slam in an 8-7 loss to East Carolina and was 4-for-5 with a walk-off single vs. JMU.
 
• Jace Stancil held Illinois to two runs on four hits over 6.0 innings on Saturday.
 
• Alex Lyon (1-0)  has allowed just one run over 11.1 innings (0.79 ERA) in three relief appearances.

ELON PHOENIX (6-5; 0-0 CAA)

• The Phoenix split four games last week, including a series win over defending MAAC champ Fairfield.

• Pitchers Aidan Stieglitz, Mike Staiano and RJ Latkowski combined on Elon’s first no-hitter since 2017 in a 3-0 win over Fairfield Saturday. The three hurlers combined for 9 K’s with only one walk.

• Brian Strange held Fairfield to one run on two hits over 6.0 frames while fanning a career-high 11 in Friday’s 3-2 victory over Fairfield.

• Gar Hindle capped a 3-run ninth inning rally with a walk-off single on Friday.

HOFSTRA PRIDE (0-6; 0-0 CAA)

• After a 13-day layoff, the Pride was swept in a three-game series at Liberty.

• CJ Griggs has hit safely in all six games and has driven in eight runs in the past five contests. He leads Hofstra with a .319 batting average.

• The Pride scored a season-high seven runs at Liberty on Sunday with seven different players crossing the plate.

• Leadoff man JJ DeVito recorded his first multi-hit game on Sunday, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored at LU.

MONMOUTH HAWKS (2-7; 0-0 CAA)

• The Hawks rolled past UMBC, 13-0, on Sunday to capture the series finale after a pair of one-run losses on Saturday.

• Senior Tommy Kent was dominant in Sunday’s win, giving up just one hit over 6.0 shutout innings and striking out a career-high 10 batters. He didn’t allow a runner past first base and combined with Brendan Kenneally on Monmouth’s first shutout since last May.

• MU got a grand slam from Robert Kelly, a three-run homer from Simmi Whitehill and a solo shot from Chris Walsh on Sunday.

N.C. A&T AGGIES (2-9; 0-0 CAA)

• The Aggies fell at #8 North Carolina and were swept in a home series against Akron last week.

• Marcus Bradshaw was 2-for-4 with a double, homer, three runs scored and three RBI’s in the opener vs. Akron.

• Tyler Smith had a pair of multi-hit games last week, including a 2-for-3 outing at UNC. He’s batting .283 with a team-high 10 RBI’s for the season.

• Jason Johnson limited Akron to one hit and one run over 4.0 innings in Game 2 of the series while striking out four.

UNCW SEAHAWKS (7-5; 0-0 CAA)

• The Seahawks went 3-2 last week, handing Charleston Southern its first loss and taking a weekend series from UConn.

• Cooper Allen held UConn to one run on three hits over 8.0 innings on Saturday. He fanned 10 for the second straight game, becoming the first UNCW pitcher since Landen Roupp in 2021 to do so.

• Trevor Lucas had three mult-hit games last week and batted .300 for the week.

• JP Pennella went 3-for-6 in the win over CSU and 3-for-4 in Sunday’s victory over UConn, raising his average to .457.

NORTHEASTERN HUSKIES (2-6; 0-0 CAA)

• The Huskies went 2-1 in Louisiana, beating Grambling and losing a close 3-1 contest with #2 LSU. NU gets another shot at LSU on Monday night.

• Andrew Wertz fanned seven over 5.0 shutout innings in a 10-0 victory over Grambling on Sunday. Andrew Basel followed with 3.0 no-hit frames.

• Freshman AJ Aschettino batted .429 over two games. His first career hit was a solo homer vs. LSU and he also doubled.

• Luc Rising limited LSU to one hit over 4.2 scoreless innings of relief and struck out three.

STONY BROOK SEAWOLVES (1-8; 0-0 CAA)

• The Seawolves split a pair of games at FIU, defeating the Panthers, 11-1, last Friday for their first win of the season.

• OF Nick Zampieron batted .556 (5-9) at FIU with a double and three RBI’s. He’s batting a team-best .353 for the year.

• Micah Worley fired 6.0 shutout innings at FIU on Friday, holding the Panthers to two hits and striking out 11.

• Matthew Jackson was 2-for-4 with three RBI’s in the win, while James Schaffer and Nicholas Dromboski each drove in a pair.

TOWSON TIGERS (5-4; 0-0 CAA)

• The Tigers topped Canisius, 16-7, in their home opener on Sunday to win the finale of the weekend series.

• Six players drove in multiple runs in the win. Nick LoBello was 3-for-4 with two RBI’s and Yariel Rodriguez was 2-for-2 with three runs scored and two RBI’s.

• Aden Knowles held Canisius to one run over the final 5.1 innings and struck out five in the series opener.

• Ryder Jeske struck out seven in 4.1 innings of scoreless relief in Game 2 of the series.

WILLIAM & MARY TRIBE (5-4; 0-0 CAA)

• W&M extended its winning streak to five after a three-game weekend sweep of Lafayette.

• Matthew Kosuda batted .400 (4-10) with six runs scored and eight RBI’s in the series, including a game-tying 3-run homer on Friday. He leads W&M with a .375 average and 14 RBI’s.
 
• Trey Christman hit .500 (5-10) in the series and scored five times.

• Stephen Christopher threw 2.1 innings of scoreless relief and struck out five to get the win on Saturday.
