Jasmine Nivar are the CAA women’s basketball weekly award winners for the week ending on March 1.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Laine McGurk, Drexel
Junior | Guard | West Chester, Pa. / West Chester Rustin
McGurk willed her team to a 2-0 week, averaging an impressive 22.0 points alongside 6.0 rebounds. Kicking off the week on Friday, the now two-time CAA Player of the Week poured in a game-high 26 points to help earn a 72-61 win over Northeastern. The point tally was McGurk’s highest inside the Daskalakis Athletic Center, and second most of her career. Two days later, the junior guard led the Dragons to a 65-63 overtime win over N.C. A&T. McGurk scored 18 points and hauled in six rebounds as Drexel erased a 14-point deficit.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Jasmine Nivar, Campbell
Freshman | Guard | Apex, N.C. / Apex Friendship HS
Nivar played a pivotal role in Campbell’s come-from-behind win against Charleston. With 19 seconds on the clock, the freshman guard stole the ball and scored the go-ahead layup to earn her team the win. Nivar finished the 59-57 victory with eight points, five assists, and six rebounds. Just two days prior, the multi-time CAA Rookie of the Week stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, three rebounds, three assists, 4 steals, and a block.
