CAA BASEBALL WEEKLY REPORT - MARCH 30

RICHMOND, Va. (March 30, 2026) – Campbell senior infielder Trent Rumley and Hofstra junior shortstop Michael Brown shared CAA baseball Player of the Week honors, while UNCW junior Cooper Allen was selected as the CAA Pitcher of the Week. Campbell freshman outfielder Carlos Lugo was chosen as the CAA Rookie of the Week.

CAA Baseball Co-Player of the Week
Michael Brown, Hofstra – Jr., SS – Las Vegas, Nev.
Brown batted .444 (8-18) with six runs scored and eight RBI’s in Hofstra’s four games last week. The junior had two hits in all four contests and drove in multiple runs in three of them. He was 2-for-4 with three RBI’s, including a walk-off single, in a 5-4 win over Northeastern on Friday. Brown was 2-for-4 and scored three times on Saturday and 2-for-5 with two RBI’s on Sunday as the Pride handed NU its first CAA series loss since 2024.

CAA Baseball Co-Player of the Week
Trent Rumley, Campbell – Sr., IF – Cowlesville, N.Y.
Rumley hit .625 (5-8) with four extra base hits, four runs scored and five RBI’s in Campbell’s sweep of Charleston to extend its winning streak to nine. Returning to the starting lineup from injury, the infielder was 3-for-3 with a double and a 3-run homer in Friday’s 12-10 victory. He doubled and drove in two in Saturday’s 6-3 win and added another double in a 3-2 triumph on Sunday. Rumley also walked four times for a .714 on base percentage.

CAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Cooper Allen, UNCW – Jr., RHP – Wake Forest, N.C.
Allen improved to 5-0 after holding William & Mary to one hit over 6.0 innings and fanning nine in a 22-1 win last Saturday. The right-hander had a no-hitter through 5.1 frames before allowing a solo homer. Allen, who leads the CAA with a 1.32 ERA, has held foes to one run or less in six of his seven starts and three hits or fewer in five of them. He’s 11th nationally in WHIP (0.74).

CAA Baseball Rookie of the Week
Carlos Lugo, Campbell – Fr., OF – Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Lugo batted .400 (6-15) with a pair of doubles, four runs scored and three RBI’s in Campbell’s 4-0 week. The freshman went 2-for-4 and scored twice as the Camels knocked off #14 NC State. He extended his hitting streak to 13 with hits in each game of the sweep of Charleston, including a 2-for-5 outing with two RBI’s on Saturday. Lugo also walked six times for a .571 on base percentage.

CONFERENCE NOTES

HUMPS KEEP ROLLING
Campbell owns the nation’s 2nd-longest winning streak at nine games after a 4-0 week. The Camels beat #14 NC State, 7-2, last Tuesday, which was their second victory over a ranked foe in the past two weeks, before sweeping Charleston to raise their CAA win streak to six and move to 11-1 in league play.

Campbell looks for a third straight ranked win as it visits #6 North Carolina on Tuesday and then goes to William & Mary for its CAA series.

MONMOUTH MAKING HISTORY
Monmouth took over sole possession of first place in the CAA’s North Division at 10-2 after a three-game sweep at Elon. The Hawks have captured their first four conference series for the first time since 2008 and they have already matched their CAA win total from all of last season.

FIRST-PLACE SHOWDOWN
The top two teams in the North - Monmouth (10-2) and Northeastern (8-4) - face off in a three-game series in Brookline starting on Thursday. The Hawks are 6-0 on the road in CAA play and the Huskies are 5-1 at home against league foes.

HOFSTRA ENDS NU WIN STREAK
Hofstra recorded a pair of walk-off wins over Northeastern last weekend to hand the Huskies their first CAA series loss since May 12, 2024. Northeastern had won an incredible 13 consecutive conference series.

UNCW’S HOOD REACHES MILESTONE
UNCW head coach Randy Hood recorded his 200th career win in the Seahawks’ 22-1 victory over William & Mary last Saturday. He is 200-128 (.610) over his tenure.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
The CAA has three of the top 11 teams in the nation in stolen bases - Northeastern is 3rd (101), William & Mary is 4th (87) and Campbell is 11th (77).

UNCW ranks 15th in Division I in ERA (3.48), 10th in hits allowed per 9 IP (7.07), 8th in WHIP (1.16) and 13th in K/BB ratio (3.13).

CAMPBELL CAMELS (18-9; 11-1 CAA)

• The Camels pushed their win streak to nine by beating #14 NC State and sweeping CAA foe Charleston last week.

• Joey Morton was 5-for-10 with two homers and six RBI’s in the first two games, going deep against NCSU and CofC to up his CAA-best HR total to 7.

• David Rossow is now 5-1 after limiting CofC to one run on two hits and fanning nine over 6.0 innings on Saturday.

• Beau Brailey saw action in three games last week and earned a win and a save. He didn’t allow a run over 3.1 innings of work and is 4-0 with a 1.17 ERA.

• Joe Simpson was 5-for-10 with five runs scored in the CofC series. He tops the CAA with 24 stolen bases.

CHARLESTON COUGARS (10-17; 5-7 CAA)

• The Cougars dropped four games last week, falling to Georgia Southern and Campbell.

•   Alex LaCoste extended his hitting streak to 13 games last week. He was one of three Cougars to homer at Campbell on Friday, belting a 3-run shot.
 
• Catcher Dylan Johnson set a program record by throwing out the 43rd would-be base stealer of his career.
 
• Parker Sweeney threw 4.0 shutout innings out of the bullpen on Saturday, allowing one hit and striking out three.

• Nick Diaz was 5-for-12 at the plate in the Campbell series and drove in five runs, with at least one in each game.

ELON PHOENIX (10-17; 3-9 CAA)

• The Phoenix suffered four setbacks last week, losing at ACC foe Wake Forest and Monmouth.

• Jackson Alford, who tops Elon with a .355 batting average and 24 runs scored, became the first Elon player since 2019 to steal 20 bases in a season. He was 7-for-13 in the Monmouth series.

• Brian DuRoff batted .455 (5-11) in the Monmouth series with a homer, three doubles and four runs scored. He raised his season average to .280.

• The Phoenix got a solid start from Brian Stange on Friday, giving up three runs over 6.0 innings and striking out five.2

HOFSTRA PRIDE (8-14; 4-5 CAA)

• The Pride went 2-2 in four 1-run games last week, earning a pair of walk-off wins against CAA frontrunner Northeastern.

• Michael Brown batted .444 and drove in eight last week, highlighted by a walk-off RBI single vs. NU on Friday. He had two hits in all four games and drove in multiple runs in three contests.

• CJ Griggs had six hits last week and delivered the walk-off RBI on Sunday.

• Tyler Cox homered twice and drove in seven runs last week. He leads the Pride with 4 HR’s and tops the CAA with 32 RBI’s.

• Sean Hamilton tied his career high with seven strikeouts vs. NU on Sunday.

MONMOUTH HAWKS (14-10; 10-2 CAA)

• The Hawks took over sole possession of first place in the North Division after a sweep of Elon as part of a 4-0 week.

• Chris Walsh batted .417 (5-12) with five RBI’s and five stolen bases. He also walked seven times for a .632 OBP%. He’s batting .345 with 12 SB’s.

• Simmi Whitehill pushed his on base streak to 24 games, while Wyatt Hunt has a 10-game hit streak and 19-game on base streak.

• Ryan Mealy gave up two runs over 5.2 innings at Elon with six strikeouts. He’s allowed four runs over his past 11.1 innings with 13 K’s.

NORTH CAROLINA  A&T AGGIES (7-19; 2-7 CAA)

• The Aggies had a strong 3-1 week, winning 10-6 at Gardner-Webb before taking 2-of-3 from Georgetown.

• Bruce Wyche went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a homer and five RBI’s in a 13-8 win over Georgetown on Saturday. He hit .429 and scored 7 runs for the week.

• Kobie Cushing held the Hoyas to one hit over 5.0 scoreless innings out of the pen on Sunday as A&T rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win, 3-2.

• Andrew Tinsley was 2-for-3 and drove in five in the victory at Gardner-Webb. He smacked a 3-run homer in the first and scored three times.

UNCW SEAHAWKS (18-9; 7-2 CAA)

• The Seahawks captured their third straight CAA series, taking 2-of-3 from William & Mary.

• UNCW continued to get quality starting pitching from Cooper Allen (6.0 IP, 1 ER), Connor Marshburn (7.0 IP, 2 ER) and Bromley Thornton (5.0 IP, 2 ER). Allen is now 5-0 with a 1.32 ERA.

• The Seahawks set season highs for runs (22) and hits (19) in Saturday’s win vs. W&M. Mason Hughes, Kevin Jones and Matous Bubenik all had four RBI’s.

• Jones drove in seven in the series and pushed his hit streak to six games.

NORTHEASTERN HUSKIES (14-12; 8-4 CAA)

• NU had four 1-run games in a 2-3 week, beating UMass Lowell (6-0), but losing its first CAA series since 2024 vs. Hofstra.

• Matt Brinker drove in eight runs last week, including six in the Hofstra series.

• Harrison Feinberg extended his hitting streak to 10 last week. He had seven RBI’s, with five coming in the final two games against Hofstra.

• Freshman Cooper Maher threw 3.1 scoreless innings of relief to earn a win vs. Hofstra and added 4.0 innings with one run allowed vs. Boston College.

• Ryan Gerety has drawn 26 walks.

STONY BROOK SEAWOLVES (6-18; 4-8 CAA)

• The Seawolves had a 2-2 week, scoring three in the 9th to edge Siena, 12-11, before beating Towson, 3-1, on Friday.

• Micah Worley turned in a quality start in the Towson win, limiting the Tigers to one run on two hits over 6.0 innings while striking out eight. He has 48 K’s in 30.2 IP and dropped his ERA to 2.93.

• Mike Vilani had four hits and drove in three last week, including two RBI’s in the Towson victory. He’s batting .313.

• John Rizzo hasn’t given up a run in four of his last five outings, including 2.2 scoreless frames last week.

TOWSON TIGERS (10-14; 2-10 CAA)

• The Tigers won the final two games to claim their first CAA series at Stony Brook, capping a 3-1 week.

• Nick LoBello batted .462 (6-13) for the week with two doubles and five RBI’s. He drove in three and scored twice vs. SBU on Saturday and was 3-for-3 with two RBI’s in Sunday’s 4-3 victory.

• Ryder Jeske held SBU to one run over 4.2 innings and struck out five on Saturday to improve to 2-1.

• AJ Kolb homered and drove in five in a 19-5 rout of UMES, while Yariel Rodriguez was 4-for-5 with four runs.

WILLIAM & MARY TRIBE (12-14; 4-5 CAA)

• The Tribe split four games last week, beating rival ODU (6-3) before rallying to edge UNCW, 9-8, on Sunday.

• Trey Christman was 3-for-5 with a two-run homer at UNCW on Sunday, He’s tied for the team lead in homers (5) and RBI’s (21).

• Zach Boyd limited UNCW to two hits over 4.0 scoreless innings and struck out four on Friday. 

• Charlie Richwine has given up just one run over his last 8.0 innings in three relief appearances. He has seven strikeouts in that stretch.
