CAA Baseball Weekly Awards - March 9

RICHMOND, Va. (March 9, 2026) – UNCW sophomore infielder Mason Hughes and Monmouth junior first baseman Chris Walsh shared CAA baseball Player of the Week honors after leading their teams to weekend sweeps. Northeastern right-hander Ryan Griffin received Pitcher of the Week accolades and Charleston right-hander Carter Harrington was named Rookie of the Week.
CAA Baseball Co-Player of the Week
Mason Hughes, UNCW – So., IF – Eastover, N.C.
Hughes batted .500 (5-10) with five runs scored with a homer and three RBI’s in UNCW’s three-game sweep against a Jacksonville squad that was receiving votes in national polls. The infielder went 4-for-5 with a two-run homer and three RBI’s in Friday’s 8-3 victory and was 1-for-3 and scored a run as the Seahawks took Sunday’s finale, 7-2. It was UNCW’s first non-conference road series sweep since 2020. Hughes also went for 1-for-2 against East Carolina.
CAA Baseball Co-Player of the Week
Chris Walsh, Monmouth – Jr., 1B – Spring Brook Township, Pa.
Walsh batted .500 (5-10) with five runs scored and four RBI’s in Monmouth’s three-game sweep at Towson. The junior was 3-for-5, scored twice, stole two bases and drove in three as the Hawks earned a 12-5 win on Friday. In Sunday’s 12-4 triumph, he was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, an RBI and two more stolen bases to complete MU’s first CAA sweep since 2024.
CAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Ryan Griffin, Northeastern – Sr., RHP – North Andover, Mass.
Griffin went 2-0 with a 1.23 ERA last week, picking up wins as a starter and reliever. Making his first career start at #2 LSU, he limited the Tigers to one earned run on four hits over 5.1 innings as the Huskies earned the highest-ranked victory in school history, 13-10. In the resumption of a halted game at Stony Brook on Sunday, he retired all six batters he faced and fanned two as NU edged the Seawolves, 4-3, in 13 innings.
CAA Baseball Rookie of the Week
Carter Harrington, Charleston – Fr., RHP – Columbia, S.C.
Harrington recorded his first collegiate win as Charleston defeated Hofstra, 5-1, in the CAA series opener last Friday. The right-hander limited the Pride to two singles over 5.0 scoreless innings and struck out five. With the performance, Harrington lowered his ERA to 1.88 over 14.1 innings this season.
