CAA Men's And Women's Tennis Championships Get Started On Friday

RICHMOND, Va. (April 16, 2026) – The 2026 CAA Tennis Championships begin on Friday from the Mackesy Tennis Center on the campus of William & Mary, with six men’s and six women’s teams battling for conference titles and an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.

The men’s championship opens on Friday morning with two quarterfinal contests as No. 4 Charleston takes on No. 5 Drexel at 9 a.m., followed by No. 3 Campbell facing No. 6 William & Mary at Noon. The winners move on to Saturday’s semifinals where No. 1 UNCW meets the Charleston/Drexel winner at 9 a.m. and No. 2 Elon battles the Campbell/William & Mary winner at Noon. The men’s championship match is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Sunday morning.

The women’s championship begins on Friday afternoon with a pair of quarterfinal matches as No. 4 UNCW faces No. 5 Drexel at 3 p.m., followed by No. 3 Charleston taking on No. 6 Campbell at 6 p.m. The two winners advance to Saturday afternoon’s semifinals, where No. 1 Elon meets the UNCW/Drexel winner at 3 p.m. and No. 2 William & Mary challenges the Charleston/Campbell winner at 6 p.m. The women’s championship match is set for 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.



Men’s Championship Preview

Top-seeded UNCW (10-11) has captured the past five men’s championships and 11 titles since 2009 under coach Mait DuBois. The Seahawks, who have faced nine teams ranked in the ITA Top 75 this season, are led by senior Lukas Steffen and junior Alex de Gabriele.

Elon (5-12) has reached the finals for the past four years and won a CAA title in 2019. The Phoenix feature a veteran lineup with five of its six singles players back from a year ago. Topping the lineup are Veljko Krstic and Rafael Ymer.

No. 3 Campbell (9-11) earned its best seed ever at the CAA Championship after closing the season with a pair of conference wins. The Camels feature Thomas Drapeau and Alex Fragasso in the top two slots of their lineup.

Charleston (11-5) went 11-2 over its final 13 matches and received its highest seed since 2017. The Cougars, who won their only CAA title in 2016, are paced by junior Jakub Solarski and Leon Harder at the top of the lineup.

Drexel (13-3) carries a four-match winning streak into the CAA Championship. The Dragons, who advanced to the semifinals of the tournament in 2023, are led by Tarek Mo Erlewein and Josue Guzman in top two singles slots.

William & Mary (9-12) owns four CAA titles and most recently advanced to the finals in 2021. The Tribe, which is led by Gur Trakhtenberg and Oliver Hague, closed the regular season with a pair of victories.

Women’s Championship Preview

Elon (14-4) returns as the No. 1 seed after capturing its first CAA Women’s Tennis Championship in 2025. The Phoenix, which has won seven of its last eight matches, Cornelia Kack tops the lineup along with returnees Simone Bergeron and Mariana Reding.

Second-seeded William & Mary (13-6) saw its streak of three consecutive CAA championships end last year, but it owns 29 overall titles during four decades. Atop the Tribe lineup are a pair of returnees from a year ago in Sia Chaudry and Francesca Davis.

Charleston (15-7), which is 7-1 in its past eight matches, is seeded third in the championship. The Cougars, who have advanced to the semifinals in five of the past seven tournaments, have Sia Cariov and Oziera Ahmad in the top two singles slots.

Receiving the No. 4 seed is UNCW (10-5), which closed the season with seven wins in its final nine matches. The Seahawks, who have made the finals four times and won a title in 2014, are led by veterans Eda Arli and Elif Albayrak.

Drexel (9-9) has advanced to the semifinals of the CAA tournament twice in the past three years. The Dragons feature grad student Lorie Lemongo and Anastasia Kavounov fronting their lineup.

Sixth-seeded Campbell (7-12) has earned a tournament berth during all three seasons as a CAA member. Winners of three of their last four, the Camels are led by Sandra Mari Marti and Sonia Pieczynska.
