Charleston, Drexel Advance To Semifinals Of CAA Women's Tennis Championship

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (April 17, 2026) – Fifth-seeded Drexel downed #4 UNCW, 4-0, while #3 Charleston captured a 4-3 thriller over #6 Campbell in the quarterfinals of the CAA Women’s Tennis Championship on Friday night at the Mackesy Tennis Center.

The Dragons (10-9) advanced to the semifinals for the third time in the past four years, while the Cougars (16-7) reached the semifinals for the sixth time in the past eight tournaments.



Drexel took an early 1-0 advantage following a hard-fought doubles competition. Drexel’s No. 2 team of Anastasia Kavounov and Rebecca Fiedler rolled to a 6-1 win over Simay Keles and Lucia Gomez, but UNCW’s No. 3 duo of Sophia Catino and Alicia Eberwein responded by beating Christine Fourie and Sofiya Snitko. The point was decided at No. 1, where Drexel’s Lorie Lemongo and Adva Dabah fought off three match points in the tiebreaker and pulled out a 7-6 (9-7) victory over Eda Arli and Elif Albayrak.

The Dragons added to their lead in singles with a 6-2, 6-1 victory by Snitko over Alex Borcich at No. 6. Fielder followed with a 6-4, 7-5 triumph over Gomez at No. 5 before Drexel was able to close out the match when Dabah battled past Katelyn Hubbard, 7-6 (7), 6-3 at No. 3.

Charleston got off to a strong start in doubles to grab a 1-0 lead. The Cougars’ top team of Sia Cariov and Francesca Salvato topped Ilouna Aneca and Sonia Pieczynska, 6-3. Charleston clinched the point at No. 3 when Jaiden McKee and Saige Severance defeated Aubrey Carroll and Hayley Glen, 6-3.

The Cougars pushed their advantage to 3-0 in singles after Riley Trinkle beat Carroll, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6 and McKee followed with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Aneca at No. 4. However, Campbell battled back. After Hayley Glen got the Camels on the board due to a retirement from injury at No. 5, Sandra Mari Marti downed Cariov, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 to make it 3-2. Campbell tied the match on Court 3 as Mollie Garcia defeated Salvato, 6-2, 6-4, setting the stage for the drama at No. 2. Charleston’s Oziera Ahmad and Campbell’s Pieczynska battled for nearly three hours before Ahmad pulled out a 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-2 decision to give the Cougars the victory.

Semifinal action begins at 3 p.m. on Saturday with #1 Elon taking on #5 Drexel, followed by #2 William & Mary against #3 Charleston at 6 p.m.
