WEEKLY REPORT

RICHMOND, Va. – CAA Champion Stony Brook (19-2) will head down to Johns Hopkins (16-4) for the 2026 NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship Quarterfinals at Homewood Field in Baltimore, Md., on Thursday.

The noon showdown will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU. The Seawolves and the Blue Jays will square off for the second time this season, with SBU looking to avenge a 13-11 road setback on March 8. Thursday’s showdown will mark the first postseason meeting between the two programs in a series in which Stony Brook holds a slight 7-6 edge.

Head Coach Joe Spallina and his Seawolves will make their fifth appearance in the national quarterfinal, marking their first since the 2022 campaign. Stony Brook became the first CAA program to reach the round of eight since 2018. SBU continues to ride the nation’s longest winning streak, emerging victorious in 15 straight contests.

Since the start of the postseason, CAA Midfielder of the Year Isabella Caporuscio has been on a tear over the last four games with 15 goals, two assists, 10 caused turnovers, 10 ground balls and 14 draw controls. The junior has posted 65 goals (11th in NCAA) on the season, while causing 2.38 turnovers per game (22th). Caporuscio continues to match Army’s Brigid Duffy as the only two players nationally with at least 65 goals and 2.0 caused turnovers per contest. Caporuscio can etch her name in the CAA record book with five goals, marking the ninth time a player has eclipsed 70 snipes in a singular season.

CAA Rookie of the Year Mirabella Altebrando increased her assists total to a league-best 58 through the team’s 21 contests, good for sixth in NCAA Division. While trailing only her head coach’s daughter, Clemson’s Alexa Spallina (71), for the most assists nationally among freshmen, the Miller Place, N.Y., native is also three dishes away from smashing the CAA record for most assists in a single season. Altebrando is trying to surpass JMU’s Katie Kerrigan and her 60 helpers from the 2018 campaign.

The winner of the rematch will await the victor of the top-seeded Northwestern and eight-seeded Colorado, with the semifinal clash slated for May 22.

CAA Defensive Player of the Year Hailey Huebner is also close to setting a CAA single-season mark in caused turnovers. The sophomore has forced 72 miscues this season, trailing only fellow Seawolves’ defender Avery Hines (74 CT) for the top spot.
