North Carolina A&T Repeats As CAA Men's Track & Field Champions

FINAL RESULTS
ELON, N.C. (May 16, 2026) – North Carolina A&T earned its second straight CAA Men’s Track & Field Championship with a strong performance on Saturday at the Jerry and Jeanne Robertson Track and Field Complex on the campus of Elon University.
The Aggies won six individual events and a relay to finish with 184.33 points and move past Day 1 leader Northeastern, which placed second with 155 points. William & Mary took third with 115 points, followed by Hampton (111.66), Monmouth (104.5), UNCW (65.5), Stony Brook (52), Hofstra (13), Campbell (8).
North Carolina A&T’s Isaiah Taylor was honored as the Men’s Track Athlete of the Meet and UNCW’s Ivan Poag was selected as Men’s Field Athlete of the Meet.
Men’s 4x100m Relay
North Carolina A&T claimed the crown once again with the team of Jalen Booth-Mitchell, Isaiah Taylor, Xzaviah Taylor and Nakhi Benjamin crossing the finish line in a time of 39.40 seconds. Northeastern had a season-best 39.84 effort for second, with Hampton rounding out the podium at 40.31.
Men’s High Jump
Monmouth’s Gavin Nelson charted the 61st-best mark in the nation this season, clearing 2.12m for the gold medal. Stony Brook’s TVario Willis was second, jumping 2.09m, while N.C. A&T’s Brenton Baker claimed third with a 2.06m mark on his first attempt.
Men’s Shot Put
William & Mary freshman Uriah Harris won gold in the event, throwing the shot put 17.66m. A&T’s Alex Henry found his way to the podium with a 16.53m toss, while Monmouth’s Ronde Washington earned bronze with a 16.23m performance.
Men’s Triple Jump
UNCW’s Ivan Poag won his first gold medal of the day after leaping 15.17m in the triple jump. N.C. A&T’s Xavier Partee was second with a 15.08m mark, while Ellis Branch from Hampton was third at 14.98m.
Men’s 1500 Meters
Northeastern earned three of the top-four spots in the 1500 meters with Patrick Cantlon having the best performance to claim first (3:47.06). Stony Brook’s Caleb Gartner garnered a silver medal on a 3:47.19 effort, while the Huskies’ Ryan Sarney (3:48.56) and Jack Mattingly (3:49.62) came in just behind.
Men’s 110m Hurdles
Two North Carolina A&T athletes broke the CAA record in the 110m hurdles, with Isaiah Taylor’s 13.30 effort earning first place. Jason Holmes was just behind him (13.37) while Hampton’s Yashahya Brown found the final spot on the podium (13.80).
Men’s 400 Meters
The Aggies garnered the two podium spots, with Xzaviah Taylor’s 45.61 performance earning gold and the nation’s 31st-best time. Hampton’s Jayden Poteat earned his spot in the top three with a 45.97 time, while A&T’s Elijah Thomas claim a bronze medal (45.61).
Men’s 100 Meters
A&T’s Jason Holmes (10.53) and Jalen Booth-Mitchell (10.63) were first and second in the 100 meters. Northeastern took the next two spots, with Taeshawn Berry’s 10.72 finish claiming the final podium spot.
Men’s 800 Meters
Dyimond Walker won the event for A&T with his 1:49.52 outing. Hampton’s Mohammed Al-YaFee narrowly took second (1:49.64) ahead of the Aggies’ Taysaun Wilson (1:49.71).
Men’s 400m Hurdles
The Taylor brothers claimed the top two spots for A&T with Isaiah (50.33) besting his sibling, Xzaviah (51.65), by over a second. Monmouth’s Andrew Beers set a personal record (51.74) on the way to finishing third.
Men’s 200 Meters
A&T’s Jalen Booth-Mitchell garned the gold medal, sprinting to the line in 20.62 seconds. Northeastern had the next two finishers with Brunner Williams (20.87) and Taeshawn Berry (21.16) crossing the line next.
Men’s Discus
N.C. A&T’s Barry Alston won the event with a 55.58m toss, marking a personal best. Hampton’s Delano Lawrence threw the second furthest discus at 52.63m, while UNCW’s Jesse Helton came in third (52.49m).
Decathlon
Northeastern’s Carter Engelman won the event with an impressive 6,224 points after finishing in the top three in all but one event. William & Mary’s Matthias Oettl was second after accumulating 6,033 points while Monmouth’s Garrett Boag took third (5,997).
Men’s 5000 Meters
William & Mary’s Hayes Trapp earned gold in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:43.53. Second place went to Northeastern’s Ryan Slaney (14:48.80), while W&M’s Luke Ellwood finished third (14:52.73).
Men’s 4x400m Relay
Hampton capped the day’s action with a gold in the 4X400 relay with the team of Daniel Danner, Ethan Moody, Jason Woods and Jayden Poteat finishing in 3:08.42. North Carolina A&T was close behind in second (3:08.53) and UNCW placed third (3:11.50).
