Allen Tosses UNCW's Third Straight Complete Game As Seahawks Beat Monmouth, 6-1

WILMINGTON, N.C. (May 22, 2026) – Junior right-hander Cooper Allen threw UNCW’s third consecutive complete game in the CAA Baseball Championship as the sixth-seeded Seahawks topped #3 Monmouth, 6-1, on Friday evening at Brooks Field.

UNCW (30-27) will stay on the field and face #2 Northeastern in another elimination game at 8:35 p.m. tonight. Monmouth saw its season come to a close with a 30-23 mark.



Allen scattered five hits and gave up just one run over 9.0 innings while striking out a season-best 11 batters. He improved to 8-4 for the year. Allen joined teammates Mason Ruh and Trey Williford with complete-game pitching efforts over the past thsree days.

Leadoff hitter JP Pennella paced the UNCW offense, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Jake Bechtel drove in a pair of runs. For Monmouth, Aidan Bretschneider was 2-for-3 and scored a run.

Despite a six-hour weather delay, UNCW wasted no time getting its offense going. The Seahawks loaded the bases in the top of the first on a pair of walks and a John Newton single. UNCW plated its first two runs on a walk and a fielder’s choice before Bechtel’s double down the left-field line brought in two more for a 4-0 Seahawks’ lead.

UNCW extended its lead to 6-0 in the second. Matous Bubenik drew a leadoff walk and scored on Pennella’s double into the right-field corner. Trevor Lucas followed with an RBI single to left.

Monmouth cut into the deficit in the third. Bretschneider singled up the middle and advanced to second on a wild pitch. With two out, Chris Walsh delivered a run-scoring double to left that got the Hawks on the board.

The pitchers took over the rest of the way. Allen limited the Hawks to three hits and fanned six over the final six frames, while Monmouth relievers Austin Beard and Colin Ruddy held UNCW scoreless in the last seven innings.
