TOWSON, Md. (May 2, 2026) – No. 3 Stony Brook claimed the CAA Men’s Lacrosse title for the first time in program history after a 13-11 win over top-seeded Towson on Saturday afternoon at Johnny Unitas Stadium in Towson, Maryland.

Stony Brook’s victory marked its first conference title since it captured the America East in 2012, and fourth overall. The result snapped Towson’s 25-game unbeaten streak against CAA opponents and delivered the Seawolves (8-5) their first win over the Tigers since Apr. 1, 2023. Towson dropped to 11-5 following the loss.

Stony Brook goalkeeper Tommy Wilk earned Most Outstanding Performer honors after anchoring the Seawolves with 33 saves across two contests, including a 17-save performance in the championship game. The senior shot stopper limited the Tigers to their lowest goal tally (11) against a conference opponent since May 1, 2025.

On the attack, Justin Bonacci netted a hat trick alongside an assist for a team-high five points. Collin Williamson, Jack Cavalieri, and Carson Boyle had two goals each.

For Towson, goalie Matt Nilan stood strong between the pipes, matching Wilk with 17 saves. Mikey Weisshaar had a game-high four goals and two assists. Ronan Fitzpatrick and Joaquin Villagomez also had two goals.

The first quarter was full of action. Within the opening six minutes, Stony Brook had taken a 4-2 lead. Conceding two quick goals from Joaquin Villagomez and Ryan Schrier, four Seawolves found the back of the cage within three minutes to gain the lead and force Tigers’ Head Coach Shawn Nadelen into calling a timeout.

Stony Brook didn’t slow down after the stoppage, stretching out to a 6-3 advantage. Williamson had two goals during the stretch, including an impressive one-two pass with Kian McCoy. Towson slowly found its footing in the matchup, with Weisshaar and Will Schoonmaker scoring to cut the deficit down to three (8-5) at the half.

Despite a second goal of the afternoon from Fitzpatrick to bring Towson within two, the Seawolves stayed resilient, scoring four in the third quarter and shutting out the Tigers along the way. Bonacci had the final two of the frame, including a buzzer-beating shot at the end of the quarter to claim a 12-6 lead.

Weisshaar wasn’t ready to finish his Towson career just yet, scoring three-straight in the fourth quarter to claw the Tigers within three goals. His tally meant that he tied Glenn Smith for most goals in Towson history at 154.

A few minutes later, the CAA Offensive Player of the Year turned provider, assisting a cutting Trevor Phipps to make it 12-10 with 6:32 on the clock. However, after a scoreless two and a half minutes, Cavalieri netted the decisive goal. Fighting through contact, Cavalieri quickly caught and slung the ball past Nilan to push his team ahead by three and close out the victory.

The Seawolves will learn their fate in their fourth NCAA Tournament in program history during Sunday night’s selection show at 9:30 p.m.
