Huskies Drop Close Contest To No. 13 Kansas, 6-3, In NCAA Regional

LAWRENCE, Kan. (May 29, 2026) – Northeastern gave Big 12 champion Kansas a battle before dropping a 6-3 decision on Friday in the opening game of the Lawrence Regional of the NCAA Baseball Championship.
The Jayhawks smacked a pair of second-inning homers to take a 3-0 lead, but the Huskies answered as catcher Will Fosberg hit a solo shot in the top of the third to make it 3-1.
KU hit another long ball to go ahead 4-1 after three before Northeastern battled back. Charlie Criscola doubled to open the fifth and scored on a fielder’s choice. In the sixth, the Huskies got singles from Ryan Gerety and AJ Aschettino to put runners on the corners and Gerety came home on a groundout to cut the deficit to 4-3. The Jayhawks tacked on two more in the eighth to create a cushion.
Gerety paced the Huskies offensively, going 3-for-4. Reliever David McSweeney threw 2.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
Northeastern is back in action at 1 p.m. (ET) on Saturday against either Arkansas or Missouri State in an elimination contest. The game can be seen on ESPN+.
