Stony Brook Falls to Marist 10-6 in Opening Round of NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.  (May 6, 2026) – Backed by a strong defensive performance, Stony Brook fell to Marist 10-6 in the Opening Round of the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship on Wednesday night from Poughkeepsie, N.Y. 

Marist advances to the First Round and will take on No. 1 Princeton on Sunday, May 10.

Collin Patrick and Peter Murray powered the Red Foxes offensively, combining for 10 points behind four goals and one assist each. Richie Metzger held strong in the cage, notching nine saves.

Collin Williamson was prolific, scoring five of the Seawolves’ six goals in the game, while Jake Lewis had the other. Tommy Wilk matched Metzger with nine saves between the pipes.

Both teams battled evenly at the faceoff stripe, splitting 20 draws, while each side collected 29 ground balls.

Marist controlled the tempo early, holding Stony Brook scoreless for nearly 20 minutes while building a 2-0 advantage. Midway through the second quarter Williamson provided the breakthrough, finding himself wide open in front of the cage and finishing off the play. After two more tallies from Murray, Lewis scored to pull his team to a 4-2 deficit at the half. 

Williamson netted his second of the game just 56 seconds after the stoppage before the Red Foxes scored three consecutive goals to take a 6-3 advantage. The junior attacker charted the next two for Stony Brook, including a highlight-reel play for his hat trick. Tip-toeing through three defenders, Williamson found himself clean through on goal before rifling it into the top right corner.

Patrick and Murray found the back of the cage at the start of the fourth quarter to extend Marist’s lead to 8-5. Despite Williamson netting his fifth of the game with 6:14 on the clock, two more unanswered goals from the Red Foxes closed out the victory.
