Stony Brook Cruises Past Stonehill, 19-5, In NCAA Women's Lacrosse First Round

STONY BROOK, N.Y. (May 8, 2026) – Fifth-seeded Stony Brook sprinted out to a 10-goal advantage early in the second quarter and cruised past Stonehill, 19-5, in the first round of the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship on Friday afternoon at LaValle Stadium.

The Seawolves (18-2), who extended their nation’s best winning streak to 14 games, advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the 13th straight tournament. Stony Brook will host either Boston College or Yale at Noon on Sunday. Stonehill, champion of the Northeast Conference, had its 10-game winning streak come to an end and concluded its season with a 13-7 mark.

CAA Rookie of the Year Mirabella Altebrando paced Stony Brook with three goals and two assists, while Jeilinne Bonilla tallied four goals and an assist. Haydin Eisfeld added three goals for the Seawolves and Julia Fusco contributed three goals, four ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Stony Brook out-shot Stonehill, 49-20, and won 19-of-25 draws. Defensively, the Seawolves caused 15 turnovers.

Stony Brook got on the board just 58 seconds into the contest on a free position goal from Eisfeld. The Seawolves tacked on four more goals in the opening five minutes as Keira Martin found the back of the cage twice along with Fusco and Altebrando to make it 5-0 with 10:33 left in the first period. Bonilla followed with back-to-back scores before Altebrando and Fusco added their second goals to make it 9-0 at the end of one.

A goal from Isabella Caporuscio just 43 seconds into the second quarter pushed the margin to 10 and the Seawolves took a commanding 13-1 advantage into halftime when Olivia Schorr completed a 40-yard sprint with her first goal of the day.

The Seawolves pushed their lead to as much as 14 on three occasions in the second half and maintained a double-digit cushion through the final 30 minutes.
