Late Rally Comes Up Just Short As Northeastern Falls To Arkansas In NCAA Regionals

LAWRENCE, Kan. (May 31, 2026) – A ninth-inning rally came up just short as Northeastern was eliminated from the Lawrence Regional of the NCAA Baseball Championship after a 10-9 setback to No. 14 Arkansas on Sunday afternoon.

The Huskies (39-22) trailed 4-1 through five innings but pulled even in the sixth. Matt Brinker got the scoring started with his ninth homer of the season before getting RBI singles from Henry DiGiorgio and Carter Bentley to knot the game at 4-4.

The Razorbacks put four on the board in the top of the seventh, but Northeastern cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the frame on a two-run homer from AJ Aschettino.

The Razorbacks added a pair of solo homers in the top of the ninth to go up 10-6, but the Huskies fought back once again. With runners on second and third and two outs, pinch hitter Will Fosberg doubled to right to pull NU within 10-8. DiGiorgio followed with an RBI single to make it a one-run game, but Arkansas was able to end the rally.

Aschettino reached base five times in the game, going 3-for-3 with a pair of walks and two RBI’s. The Huskies also got two hits from DiGiorgio, Brinker, Ryan Gerety and Tyler Harmony as they out-hit the Hogs, 14-11.

Freshman Cooper Maher provided another solid performance in his second career start, limiting Arkansas to two earned runs over 5.0 innings and striking out six.

It was the second year in a row that Northeastern won a game in the NCAA Regionals.
