Hofstra's Martinez, UNCW's Lucas Top Group Of Nine CAA Players Chosen In 2026 MLB Draft

RICHMOND, Va. (July 12, 2026) – Nine CAA baseball players were selected in the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft, highlighted by Hofstra pitcher Carlos Martinez and UNCW third baseman Trevor Lucas getting picked in the fourth round.

Martinez was taken with the 118th overall pick by the San Francisco Giants on Saturday evening and Lucas came off the board minutes later with the 129th pick by the Seattle Mariners.

Seven more CAA players were chosen on Sunday. In the sixth round, UNCW pitcher Cooper Allen was taken by the Washington Nationals (167 overall) and Stony Brook hurler Micah Worley followed 10 picks later (177) by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Campbell’s David Rossow, the CAA Pitcher of the Year, was chosen in the seventh round (201 overall) by the Athletics. Northeastern hurler Luc Rising went in the 10th round (289 overall) to the Los Angeles Angels.

In the 12th round, UNCW pitcher Connor Marshburn was selected by the Seattle Mariners (370 overall). Campbell pitcher Camden Wimbish was picked in the 17th round (523 overall) by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Northeastern pitcher Andrew Wertz capped the CAA selections when he was taken by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 20th round (596 overall).

After missing last season due to an injury, Martinez returned to the mound and earned a spot on the All-CAA first team. The right-hander was 6-3 with a 3.30 ERA and struck out 96 in 76.1 innings. He was also named to the CAA All-Tournament team after throwing 6.0 scoreless innings in a win over Charleston. Martinez is the highest Hofstra draft pick since pitcher John Rooney was chosen in the third round in 2018.

Lucas claimed a spot on the All-CAA first team in 2026 after batting .312 with 12 doubles, 12 homers and a team-high 56 RBI’s. He added nine stolen bases and only committed eight errors defensively in 136 chances. Lucas tallied 20 multi-hit games and scored multiple runs in 11 contests. He is the highest UNCW draft pick since infielder Greg Jones was selected in the first round in 2019.

Allen made the All-CAA second team after going 8-4 with a 2.79 ERA and striking out 96 over 87.0 innings. Worley received honorable mention on the All-CAA squad after posting a 6-5 record with a 3.12 ERA while striking out 93 in 69.1 frames. Rossow earned All-America honors following a season in which he went 10-2 with a 2.53 ERA and a CAA-best 104 strikeouts. Rising was 5-5 with a team-best 3.54 ERA and 84 strikeouts over 81.1 innings.

Marshburn was 4-6 with a 4.57 ERA and fanned 81 in 80.2 innings. Wimbish was 2-2 with a 5.61 ERA and 59 strikeouts over 51.1 innings. Wertz was a first-team All-CAA pick after going 2-2 with  six saves and a 3.46 ERA.
