TAYLOR NAMED TO TOPDRAWERSOCCER NATIONAL TEAM OF THE WEEK
Richmond, Va. -- Following his first career CAA Defensive Player of the Week selection, Elon senior defender Joe Taylor has been named to TopDrawerSoccer.com’s National Team of the Week, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Taylor delivered the game-winning goal in Elon’s 1-0 victory at Duke on Friday, scoring directly off a free kick from nearly 30 yards out just three minutes into the contest. The senior went on to play all 90 minutes for the first time this season, helping the Phoenix secure the shutout.
The victory marked Elon’s third all-time win over Duke and its first in Durham. It also marked Phoenix’s first road victory over an ACC opponent since 2015.
Taylor’s CAA Defensive Player of the Week honor was the first of his career and marked just the fourth time in the last six seasons that an Elon defender has earned the conference’s weekly defensive award.
Elon returns to Rudd Field on Tuesday night, hosting USC Upstate at 7 p.m.
