CAA WRESTLING REPORT - DEC. 5
Senior Chris Weidman of Hofstra University and junior Ryan Hluschak of Drexel University have been named the Colonial Athletic Association Wrestlers of the Week, and Lou Ruggirello of Hofstra and Chris Brown of Old Dominion University have been named the CAA Rookies of the Week, for all competition prior to December 4.
Weidman (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin/Nassau CC) placed third at the Cliff Keen/Las Vegas Invitational, winning six of seven bouts at 197, including wins over the 10th and 13th ranked wrestlers, with his only loss coming to the seventh seed. Currently ranked sixth in the nation by InterMat and nine by Amateur Wrestling News, Weidman improves to 12 -1 on the season.
Hluschak (Slatington, PA/Northern Lehigh) won his 157 pound weight class at the Cornell Body Bar Invitational on his way to an 8-0 start.
Currently ranked 20th in the nation at 133, Ruggirello (Walden, NY/Valley Central) improved to 14-3 in his collegiate career by winning five of seven matches in Vegas, including a pin and a major decision.
Currently ranked 17th in the nation by Amateur Wrestling News, Brown (Chesapeake, VA/Great Bridge) placed second at the Michigan State Open, third at Lock Haven’s Mat Town and fourth at Cornell’s Body Bar tournaments, winning 12 of his first 16 collegiate bouts with all four losses coming to ranked opponents.
