TOWSON TIGERS
Starting his 16th season as Towson’s head coach,
Gordy Combs is hoping to continue a recent trend as the Tigers shown marked
improvement the last two years, including a 7-4 record in 2006. After leading the Tigers to a third place
finish in the league’s South Division last season, Combs is approaching the
Tigers' first season of CAA Football with cautious optimism.
With the return of junior quarterback
Sean Schaefer the Tigers should have an outstanding passing attack again this
season. Schaefer completed 260 passes
for 3,033 yards and 19 touchdowns in only 10 games last season. Junior Marcus Lee and senior Demetrius
Harrison have come to the front this season as the Tigers’ wideouts. Both were part of the Tigers' top three
receivers last season as Lee caught 50 passes for 546 yards and Harrison averaged 13.3 yards per catch with 49 receptions
and 650 yards. The Tigers' offensive
line will have depth and versatility in 2007 as four starters return including
sophomore Dan Bridges, seniors Jeff Tyler and Nick Bradway and junior Austin
Weibley. Senior Nick Williams is the
Tigers' most experienced running back in 2007, but senior Rasheed McClaude also
saw plenty of action in 2006.
Led by a very strong group of returning linebackers
the Tiger defense should show even more improvement this season. Senior John Webb and junior Jordan Manning
are the returning starters at the two outside linebacker positions. Senior Brian Bradford, a Preseason
All-Conference pick, is a returning starter at one of inside linebacker spots
after ranking second on the squad with 74 tackles in just nine games last
season. A pair of experienced seniors,
Eric Clark and Kenny Scott, will lead the Tigers' secondary which lost one
starter from a season ago. Senior T.J.
Foley returns as a starter at defensive tackle.
Foley appeared in nine games in 2006 and made 14 tackles.
