CAA BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Mark Micowski, Georgia State

Jr., OF, Haddam, Conn./Xavier HS
Micowski batted .636 (14-for-22) with five doubles, two homers, a triple, 14 runs scored and 10 RBI in Georgia State’s 4-1 week. The junior went 7-for-8 with four runs scored and seven RBI in the Panthers’ 32-3 romp of N.C. Central last week. In that contest, he hit for the cycle in the first four innings. Micowski also set a GSU record by scoring six runs in Sunday’s victory over the Eagles.

CAA BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK:
Kyle Hald, Old Dominion

Jr., LHP, Springfield, Va./South County HS
Hald tossed a complete-game 5-hit shutout last Friday as Old Dominion edged La Salle 1-0. The junior left-hander struck out 11 and walked two while facing only 32 batters in the game. For the season, Hald is 3-0 with a 1.69 ERA  and 30 strikeouts in 21.1 innings of work.

CAA BASEBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Ryan Brown, William and Mary

Fr., OF, Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford
Brown batted .500 (5-for-10) with three walks and a pair of RBI as William & Mary took two of three from Big East foe Seton Hall last weekend. The freshman outfielder had a walk-off two-run single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth as the Tribe rallied past the Pirates 3-2 last Sunday.

DIAMOND NOTES:

DELAWARE (3-7)
The Blue Hens lost three of four to Manhattan last weekend. Junior shortstop Dave Anderson batted .500 (8-16) in the series with a team-high four doubles and three runs scored. Freshman shortstop D.J. Long hit .368 versus MC with five runs scored. He had at least two hits in the first three games of the series. Senior third baseman Carlos Alonso extended his hitting streak to 23 games, which is the sixth-longest in program history. He has reached base safely in 59 straight contests. Junior outfielder Pat Dameron drove in eight runs last week. The Blue Hens host Holy Cross this weekend.

GEORGE MASON (4-4)
The Patriots dropped a 6-4 decision at Richmond last Tuesday in their only action of the week. A three-game home series with Fordham was cancelled due to unplayable field conditions. Mark Hill went 2-for-4 with an RBI against the Spiders and shortstop Brig Tison was 2-for-5 and scored twice. Starting pitcher Chris O’Grady allowed just four hits and one earned run over the first five innings. Mason visits Radford today and hosts Central Connecticut State in a three-game series starting Friday.

GEORGIA STATE (6-6)
The Panthers went 4-1 last week, capped by a four-game sweep of North Carolina Central in which Georgia State scored a school-record 103 runs. Junior outfielder Marc Micowski batted .636 (14-22) with five doubles, two homers, 14 runs scored and 10 RBI. He went 7-for-8  with seven RBI and hit for the cycle in last Friday’s opener with NCCU. The effort earned him National Hitter of the Week honors from the NCBWA. Senior Bradley Logan became GSU’s career leader in runs scored last Saturday. Other offensive stars for the Panthers last weekend included sophomore Brett Maxwell (.579, 9 RBI), sophomore Brandon Williams (.579, 11 runs, 15 RBI) and junior Ryan Fleming (2 grand slams, 16 RBI). Closer Justin Malone extended his school-record scoreless inning streak to 16.1 frames. He hasn’t given up a run since April 11 of last season. The Panthers travel to New Mexico State for a three-game series this weekend.

HOFSTRA (0-9)
The Pride are still searching for their first victory after being swept in a three-game series at Maryland last weekend. Hofstra is 0-9 for the second year in a row, with six of those losses coming to ACC foes. Senior Elliot Hagburg is batting .389 on the season and leads the team with a .500 slugging percentage. Ethan Paquette, a transfer from Vermont, has started all nine games and is batting .333 with a team-high 11 hits. Pitcher Sean Monaghan registered Hofstra’s first quality start of the year, limiting Maryland to just one earned run over six innings in a 6-3 setback on Friday. Hofstra faces Temple, Villanova and Saint Joseph’s this weekend at the Villanova Bash.

JAMES MADISON (3-5)
The Dukes went 3-1 last week, including an 11-10 win over Longwood in the opening game at Veterans Memorial Park. JMU trailed the Lancers 9-2, but won the game on junior McKinnon Langston’s bases-loaded single in the ninth. Langston batted .412 (5-12) with a double, homer and five RBI for the week. Freshman outfielder Johnny Bladel hit .308 with two doubles and four RBI last week, while Brett Garner batted .500 with three doubles. Closer Kevin Munson didn’t allow a run and fanned eight in 4.1 innings of work last week, earning a win and two saves. Munson set the JMU record for career saves with 15.  Junior Kyle Hoffman allowed no earned runs in 5.1 innings in a win over UNF.

UNC WILMINGTON (4-7)
The Seahawks dropped three of four last week, picking up its lone win on Sunday by beating Stony Brook 11-3. Junior pitcher Justin Bradley struck out a career-high nine batters in a seven-inning shuout relief effort against Akron last Saturday. Bradley hasn’t allowed a run in two appearances this year. Sophomore Tyler McSwain fanned a career-best nine batters in six frames against Akron last Friday, but the Seahawks’ bullpen allowed 10 runs over the final three innings in an 11-5 setback. Alex Hill homered and drove in three runs in the victory over Stony Brook last Sunday. UNCW coach Mark Scalf is nine wins shy of 600 for his career. The Seahawks close a nine-game homestand this weekend.

NORTHEASTERN (4-3)
The Huskies went 1-2 last week, beating Valparaiso 7-1 but losing to Villanova and Bowling Green. Junior pitcher Les Williams didn’t allow an earned run over six innings against Valpo and struck out seven to earn his first win of the year. Freshman third baseman Logan Gillis paced Northeastern offensively last week, batting .583 (7-12) with three doubles on the week. The Huskies head to Philadelphia this weekend where they will play Saint Joseph’s, Temple and host Villanova at the Villanova Baseball Bash.

OLD DOMINION (9-5)

The Monarchs went 3-1 last week, including taking two-of-three from La Salle over the weekend. ODU won Friday’s opener 1-0 when junior lefty Kyle Hald threw a complete-game 5-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts over nine innings. Hald improved to 3-0 on the season with a 1.69 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 21.1 innings. Ben Tomchick (2-0) gave up just two runs over 7.1 innings and struck out nine in a 5-4 win over La Salle on Saturday. Junior outfielder Donnie Corsner led the Monarchs offensively, batting .438 with two doubles, a homer and seven RBI. Corsner’s double in the ninth drove in the winning run in the 1-0 triumph over La Salle. ODU travels to Stetson this weekend.

TOWSON (1-9)
The Tigers lost all four games last week, including three at High Point. Towson was shutout for the first time since last April in the opener against HPU, but then broke loose for 13 runs on Saturday. Shortstop Nick Natoli, who batted .462 in the series, had four hits and three runs in the game. Outfielder Kevin Collins also had four hits and drove in five in the setback. He batted .600 with five RBI in the series and raised his season average to .341. Towson’s pitching staff gave up 35 earned runs in 24 innings at HPU. Freshman Michael Trionfo made his first collegiate start at Maryland and threw three strong innings in a 4-2 loss. Towson closes a 15-game road trip at Tulane this weekend.

VCU (8-3)
The Rams swept a three-game home series with Cleveand State last weekend. Senior Richard Gonzalez batted .600 (6-10) with six RBI and four runs scored in the series. Senior Joe Van Meter was 3-for-5 and was only a homer shy of the cycle in Sunday’s 13-1 win, while senior M.L. Morgan went 3-for-4 and drove in three. Senior Doug Otto belted his third homer of the year in Friday’s 6-5 triumph. Sophomore Seth Cutler-Voltz allowed just a run on three hits over eight innings on Sunday. He struck out a career-best 10 batters and didn’t give up a walk. Freshman Blake Hauser earned his second straight win after giving up a run on two hits over seven frames last Friday. The Rams play three games in Daytona Beach, Fla. this weekend.

WILLIAM & MARY (5-4)
The Tribe won two of three in their series with Seton Hall last weekend. Freshman outfielder Ryan Brown batted .500 (5-10) in the series, highlighted by a walk-off, two-out, two-run single that gave W&M a 3-2 triumph over the Pirates last Sunday. Brown also had three walks in the series. Sophomore reliever Matt Davenport tossed 7.2 shutout innings in the Seton Hall series. He gave up only two hits and struck out two with no walks. Starting pitcher Matt Wainman gave up only two hits and one earned run over 5.1 innings on Saturday, but didn’t get a decision in the Tribe’s 6-4 victory. Five different W&M players had two hits in the win. W&M hosts #1 Virginia on Wednesday before beginning a three-game series with Quinnipiac.
