BINGHAMTON CLINCHES FIRST-EVER CAA WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIP

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J.- Binghamton won its first-ever CAA Wrestling championship on Saturday afternoon at Rider University.

During the two-day championship, the Bearcats totaled 87.5 points, 13.5 better than the pre-tournament favorite Old Dominion Monarchs, who finished with 73 points.

Rider took third wih 58.5 points, followed by Drexel (46.5) and Hofstra (41). George Mason (29.5), Boston University (28) and Sacred Heart (21.5) rounded out the team scoring.

The Bearcats claimed four weight-class championships, one runner-up, and a third and fourth place finish. Binghamton had never finished above fourth in the team standings in its history in the CAA.

The Monarchs had three champions, and one second, third, and fourth place finisher. Rider took third with a pair of champions and four third-place finishes.

Binghamton's Josh Patterson was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the championship meet, after claiming 16-6 decision in the final of the 174-pound weight class.

In addition to the ten champions, representing the CAA at Nationals in Omaha, Neb., March 18-20 are: runners-up Brian Wright of Mason, Donnie Vinson of Binghamton, Joe Booth of Drexel, PJ Gillespie of Hofstra, Bagna Tovuujav of Mason, Ben Clymer of Hofstra and third place finishers Brandon Bucher of GMU and Johnny Bonilla-Bowman of Hofstra.
