TOWSON, Md.- Towson
Athletics, Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority and the Tiger Women's Basketball program is
proud to announce its participation in the Women's Basketball Coaches
Association's "Pink Zone" initiative to raise awareness for the fight
against breast cancer. More than 600 schools nation-wide are participating
in the initiative this season. This event has been dubbed "Shoot-Out
Breast Cancer".
The
event will take place on Sunday, February 7
when the Tigers take on Colonial Athletic Association opponent Northeastern in
women's basketball. Game time is set for 12 p.m. at the Towson Center.
Proceeds raised at Towson's event will go toward Susan G. Komen for the Cure's
Passionately Pink program.
Passionately
Pink for the Cure is a fundraising program that promotes breast cancer
awareness and honors those affected by the disease. The program supports the
Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation, the world's largest, boldest and most
progressive grassroots network of survivor and activists fighting to cure
breast cancer at every stage.
Towson
is contributing $2 from every ticket purchased to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
"It's important for the community to understand that 75% of donations to
Komen Maryland stay in Maryland to fund 20 grants across the state,"
stated Rachel Carlberg, the Volunteer
Coordinator for the Maryland affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure
Foundation. "We are very pleased to partner with Towson University on this
special event."
Adult general
admission tickets are just $5 and tickets for kids 17 and under are only $3.
As
a special treat to fans in attendance at the Towson-Northwestern game on Feb.
7, Passionately Pink lapel pins will be given away at the door. The Towson
team will wear special warm-ups, and fans are encouraged to wear pink to the
game.
Prior
to the game that week, fans can purchase the official "Shoot-Out Breast
Cancer" shirts to be worn at the game. Shirts will be sold on campus at
the University Union Wednesday, February 3 through Friday, February 5.
All proceeds from the shirts will benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure,
and of course the shirts are pink.
