Hofstra Softball Coaches Named Regional Staff Of The Year
Hempstead, N.Y. - The Hofstra softball staff was named the
National Fastpitch Coaches Association's Northeast Region Coaching Staff of the
Year, the organization announced.
Head
coach Bill Edwards, associate head coach Larissa Andersonand assistant coaches Courtney Oliver and Adrienne Clark comprised the Pride staff that
guided Hofstra to a 42-15 record and the school's first-ever appearance in the
NCAA Super Regional round.
Edwards
has now been named the NFCA Regional Coach of the Year 10 times in his
career (1993-95, 1997, 2000, 2003-05, 2007-08, 2012), including six with
Anderson on the staff. Other regional winners included Oklahoma, Louisville,
Virginia Tech, South Florida, Missouri, University of California, Berkeley,
Tennessee and Arizona State. Alabama's coaches were named the national (and
Southern Region) staff of the year after leading the Crimson Tide to the
national championship.
Hofstra
won its ninth Colonial Athletic Association championship in 11 years before
knocking off 12-time national champion UCLA and San Diego State twice to
win the Los Angeles Regional.
The
Pride set a school record with 21 straight victories, culminating with a Game 1
victory over No. 19 South Florida in Game 1 of the Tampa Super Regional. The
Bulls won both Games 2 and 3 by a single run as Hofstra fell one victory shy of
reaching the Women's College World Series.
Hofstra
finished with a 40-win season for the sixth time in the last eight seasons,
including a 22-0 total record against CAA teams en route to the first
undefeated conference showing in program history.
