CAA Volleyball Offensive
Player of the Week:
Lizzy Briones, So.,
MB, James Madison
Briones helped James Madison to a perfect 3-0 record at the Madison
Bingaman Memorial Tournament last weekend with her play in the middle. Briones
collected 33 kills, 15 blocks, eight digs and three service aces in 11 sets
played. The sophomore averaged 3.00 kills per set and committed just eight
errors all weekend to finish with a .379 attack percentage. She also set a
season-high for blocks with six against both UMBC and Robert Morris, including
averaging 2.00 per set against the Colonials.
CAA Volleyball Defensive
Player of the Week:
Alysha McCreary, Sr.,
MB, Towson
McCreary had a strong defensive weekend to earn
all-tournament honors at the Montana Tournament. McCreary averaged 1.33 blocks
per set after recording 16 total blocks in three matches this past weekend. She
also recorded 37 kills while hitting .295. On Friday against Texas Tech,
McCreary had 11 kills and four blocks. On Saturday against Montana, she
contributed 14 kills, three service aces, three digs and five blocks. In the
final match against Furman, she had a season-high and matched her career-high
with seven blocks while also adding 12 kills.
CAA Volleyball Rookie
of the Week:
Dessi Koleva, Fr.,
MB, William & Mary
Kelova has ranked among the team's top four in every statistical
category. She is fourth in kills, blocks, and points, third in attack
percentage and digs, and second in service aces. Kelova hit .421 with 12 kills
in the win over New Hampshire, and had
an astounding 4.0 digs per set against Holy Cross.
CAA QUICK HITS:
George Mason freshman
Barnetta Moore was named to the High Point Classic All-Tournament Team.
Georgia State senior Jamiee Freeman and freshman Natalia Nieto were named
to the GSU Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Three Towson players recorded 12 or
more blocks in three matches during the Montana Tournament.
W&M had two players named to the
all-tournament team of the Holly Young Invitational, Paulette Grand Pre and
Manon Murray.
UNCW posted its highest single-match
hitting percentage since 2002 in its 3-0 victory over Stetson. The Seahawks
finished with a .397 attack clip which erased the previous record of .388 set
in 2003.
UNCW senior Jennifer Mallard and junior
Christi Laite were named to the All-Tournament Team at the Spartan Classic.
Delaware freshman Ariel Shonk was named
to the All-Tournament Team at the Delaware Invitational.
Around the League
Hofstra's Maneja Breaks Digs Record: Hofstra senior libero Kylee Maneja
became the Pride's all time digs record holder Friday against Texas A&M
Corpus Christi. THe Hawaii native has 1,693 digs for her career and passed
Shellane Ogoshi who recorded 1,660.
Keliikoa Named Tournament MVP: Towson's
I'isiah Keliikoa was named MVP of the Montana Tournament after hitting .436
with 28 kills and 12 blocks in the three matches. Teammate Alysha McCreary was
named to the all-tournament team.
