CAA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL - WEEKLY REPORT (DEC. 1)

Sarah Curran • Drexel University

Sophomore forward Sarah Curran netted a career-high 25 points as Drexel defeated city rival Saint Joseph’s in its only game of the week. Curran was 11-for-15 from the floor (73.3 percent) against the Hawks. She added four rebounds, two steals, and an assist while not turning the ball over in 39 minutes of action. The game was her third double-digit scoring effort in four contests this season.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Shay Burnett • Elon
Freshman | Guard | Graham, N.C./Southern Alamance
Freshman guard Shay Burnett averaged 13.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 18.5 minutes per game in two games for Elon. Over the week, she shot 50 percent (8-for-16) from the floor and went 8-for-10 from the free throw line. She added three assists, two steals, and a block. In a win over Liberty, she had 11 points and six rebounds. Burnett recorded her first collegiate double-double against High Point with 15 points and 10 rebounds, both career highs.
#CAAHoops – The Week that Was
College of Charleston (0-7): The Cougars faced some tough competition at the Gulf Coast Showcase, falling to No. 3 UConn, (RV) Minnesota, and Villanova. Over the three games,
Jackie Luna-Castro averaged 9.3 points and 5.3 rebounds while
Erin Hall contributed 8.0 points and 4.0 rebounds.
Delaware (2-3): The Blue Hens split games, falling to Fordham, 49-44, before downing Vermont, 68-46. Junior
Courtni Green posted a career-high 30 points against Vermont, including the first 13 points of the second half. She averaged 21.0 points and 8.0 rebounds over the two games. Rookie
Makeda Nicholas was strong on the glass for the Blue Hens, averaging 8.5 rebounds per game.
Drexel (3-1): The Dragons finished the month of November at 3-1, going a perfect 3-0 at home, by knocking off city rival Saint Joseph’s, 76-63, for the first time in four years. Junior guard
Meghan Creighton put together her first-career double-double, scoring 10 points and adding a career-high 10 rebounds. She also dished out seven assists, three shy of recording the second triple-double in program history.
Sarah Curran added a career-high 25 points in the win.
Elon (4-1): The Phoenix split games last week, topping Liberty, 73-62, before falling at High Point, 87-71. Before its loss at High Point, Elon stood a 4-0 for the first time under Head Coach
Charlotte Smith and for the first time since the 1997-98 season. Freshman guard

Zora Stephenson put up 10.5 points per game while
Essence Baucom averaged 6.0 assists and 7.0 rebounds in two games.
Hofstra (3-3): The Pride advanced to the championship game of the Hofstra Thanksgiving Tournament but fell to (RV) Western Kentucky, 70-65, in overtime. In the opening game, the Pride posted a 61-58 overtime victory over Northern Iowa. Sophomore forward
Elo Edeferioka notched a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds over UNI and had 11 boards against WKU. Edeferioka was named to the All-Tournament Team as was Darius Faulk, who had 15 points against WKU.
No. 23 James Madison (5-1): The Dukes split games at the San Juan Shootout. In the opener, the Dukes fell to undefeated No. 10/8 Maryland, 80-64. They rebounded with an 84-60 victory over Houston in their finale. Junior
Precious Hall averaged 25.5 points per game, scoring 29 against Maryland. Hall has scored at least 22 points in her last three outings and has scored in double figures in 15 consecutive games. Redshirt-senior center
Lauren Okafor scored a career high 21 points against Houston, one of four Dukes to record double figures.
UNCW (2-3): The Seahawks hosted the UNCW Hampton Inn Thanksgiving Classic at Trask Coliseum. In the opener, the Seahawks could not stop a late run by North Florida, falling 55-41. In the second game, UNCW lost to Western Carolina, 64-53. The Seahawks, who have lost three games in a row after a 2-0 start, were led by senior guard
Kelva Atkins, who averaged 12.5 points per game. Sophomore
Naqaiyyah Teague tallied 21 rebounds in the two games last week, recording back-to-back, double-digit rebounding efforts for the first time in her career.
Northeastern (2-3): The Huskies battled at the FAU Thanksgiving Classic. In the opener, NU was clipped by North Dakota State, 79-72. In the second game, Northeastern fell at host FAU, 81-74
. Francesca Sally averaged 14.5 points and 10.0 rebounds, including 18 points and 14 boards against FAU. Senior
A’lece Mark added 23.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game at the tournament.
Towson (2-4): The Tigers had three games last week, opening things up with a 59-54 win over UMBC, giving Head Coach
Niki Reid Geckeler the 100th coaching victory of her career. Towson also came up short against two feisty opponents at the LIU Brooklyn Turkey Classic. The Tigers fell to Rhode Island, 60-49, on the opening day and suffered a 62-49 loss to La Salle in the finale. Redshirt senior forward
LaTorri Hines-Allen averaged 18.7 points and 13 rebounds per game in the three contests. Junior guard
Dominique Johnson hit the 100th three-pointer of her career against Rhode Island.
William & Mary (4-2): The Tribe went 2-0 on the week with a 56-48 win over VCU and a 90-55 decision over Longwood. Sophomore
Marlena Tremba averaged 15.5 points per game while freshman
Jenna Green continued her strong freshman season averaging 5.5 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists. After missing the first four games with injury, senior
Kyla Kerstetter returned to the lineup against VCU, scoring 12 points to go along with a five steals.
