2014 NSCAA ALL-AMERICA TEAMS

UNCW senior midfielder Jamie Dell and Delaware sophomore Guillermo Delgado have received third-team All-America honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Dell becomes UNCW’s second NSCAA All-America honoree, joining Indy Smith, who was a third-team selection at defender in 2009. Both helped the Seahawks reach the second round of the NCAA tournament as seniors.

“This is a testament to Jamie’s dedication, determination and perseverance these past three and a half years and well deserved for an outstanding senior campaign,” said UNCW Head Coach Aidan Heaney. “His output for a midfielder - 10 goals (six of which were game winners), against some of the toughest opposition in the country – was staggering and some of them were of the highest order. This story is even more special as he agreed to join UNCW initially for no scholarship his freshman year as we did not have any available at the time. He has had to work to get to this point and we were able to reward Jamie with scholarship increases along the way. This award is truly a great honor for him, our team and his family.”

Dell, who was a first-team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection, was honored earlier this week as a first-team NSCAA Midwest Region honoree. This honor is the latest in an impressive haul for the Chapel Hill, N.C., native. He was also named All-State by the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association earlier this month.

As a senior, Dell notched a career-high 22 points on a career-high 10 goals and two assists. He became the first Seahawk since Sam Leger in 2005 to score 10 goals in a season. Dell also showed a knack for the dramatic, scoring six game-winning goals to rank third nationally. Those game-winning goals came against the likes of High Point, South Carolina, Old Dominion, North Carolina, Col. of Charleston and Drexel. He finished tied for the program lead with nine career game-winners.

Delgado earned All-America honors for the second time in two years at Delaware, having made the second team in 2013. The sophomore forward received CAA Player of the Year honors this season after leading the CAA and ranking among national leaders with 12 goals and 26 points. Six of his 12 goals were game-winners, which was tied for the CAA lead and also was tied for third among all players in Division I.

"Guillermo’s achievement is a real credit to our program and to an attacking style of soccer that the program has played in recent years,” said Delaware head coach Ian Hennessy, who led the Blue Hens to a 13-6-1 record, the CAA regular season title, and a berth in the CAA Tournament championship game this past fall. “He has been the center-piece of an offense that ranks as one of the best in the nation over the past two years. He deserves all the accolades he receives."

Delgado is a two-time first-team All-CAA selection and was the conference’s Rookie of the Year in 2013. He has already accumulated 27 goals and seven assists just halfway through his career with the Blue Hens. The 27 goals is tied for third on UD’s career list and his 61 career points ranks fourth. Delgado becomes just the third player in UD history to earn All-American honors twice, joining John?McLaughlin, who was an honorable mention All-American in 1953 and 1954, and Dave Ferrell, who earned second team honors in both 1976 and 1977.
