UD's Delgado Headlines Preseason All-CAA Men's Soccer Team

RICHMOND, Va. (August 18, 2014) – Delaware sophomore forward/midfielder
Guillermo Delgado, who earned All-America and CAA Rookie of the Year honors in 2013, has been chosen as the CAA’s preseason men’s soccer Player of the Year for 2014 in voting by the league’s head coaches.
Delgado topped the CAA with 15 goals and 35 points in his first season with the Blue Hens and was chosen to the NSCAA All-America second team. He was also selected to the All-South Atlantic Region and All-CAA first teams. Delgado ranked fourth in Division I in goals per game (0.75) and fifth in points per game (1.75) as Delaware set a program record for wins (14) and received an at-large berth to the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship. He’s on the Watch List for the 2014 MAC Hermann Trophy, which is awarded to the nation’s top men’s collegiate player at the end of the season.
Joining Delgado at forward on the preseason All-CAA men’s soccer team are UNCW junior
Colin Bonner, Delaware senior
Roberto Gimenez, Hofstra senior
Maid Memic and Elon senior
Jason Waterman. Bonner made the All-CAA second team last year after leading the Seahawks with six goals and 15 points. Gimenez contributed five goals and a team-high six assists for the Blue Hens and also made the All-CAA second team. Memic earned first-team All-CAA accolades after ranking second in the league with 10 goals and 23 points. Waterman was a member of the All-Southern Conference first team after leading the Phoenix in goals (12), assists (7) and points (31).

Michele Pataia and UNCW junior
David Sizemore. Brace was an All-SoCon second team pick last year after tallying 10 goals and four assists for the Phoenix. Luster dished out a pair of assists for the Tribe and received first-team All-CAA honors in 2013. Pataia earned third-team All-CAA accolades after chipping in a goal and four assists for the Dragons. Sizemore had four goals and an assist for the Seahawks a year ago and was a member of the All-CAA second team.

Michael Teiman and UNCW senior
Jacob VanCompernolle. Aðalsteinsson received second-team All-CAA accolades last year and was a first-team all-conference pick in 2012. Cox has been a member of the All-CAA first team for the past two seasons and was the league’s Co-Defender of the Year in 2012. Liberatore provided three assists for the Dragons last season and gained a spot on the All-CAA third team. Teiman helped anchor a Tribe defense that led the league in goals against average and posted nine shutouts a year ago. VanCompernolle contributed a goal and three assists for the Seahawks in 2013 and was chosen to the All-CAA first team.

Borja Barbero, who received first-team All-CAA honors last season after posting a 1.24 GAA with five shutouts and leading the league with 70 saves.
The 2014 CAA men’s soccer season gets underway on Friday, August 29.
